I know we’re all sick of these things, but hear me out. It occurred to me the other day while chatting with a client that a lot of folks are staying away from massage because they don’t know what to expect, and that makes them anxious. I get it, 100%. This is the girl who had to do several drivebys before dining on a patio this summer so that I could properly assess the table spacing first #sorrynotsorry So this will be the first post in a series where I explain what... my protocols are. First up: P P E I wear three-ply, surgical grade disposable masks, as required by my regulatory body, the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario. They are Canadian-made and ASTM Level 3 rated, meaning they protect against the highest degree of fluid splatter (yum). They are the creme de la creme of surgical masks, if you will. My mask stays on for the entire time that I interact with clients AND anytime I am in the treatment room (tidying up, for example). I also wear eye protection . Clients also wear a mask, although they can wear a lesser grade than mine - fabric, two-ply disposable, etc. It has to fit their face properly, and not be visibly soiled. Otherwise, I ask them to fix/change it. Clients wear their mask for their entire treatment, including while lying facedown. TBH, it’s very easy to get used to, and my clients are the greatest because not one of them has ever complained about it #proudRMT I don’t wear gloves, because they would interfere with my work. More importantly, gloves are no match for vigorous hand washing, of which there is a-plenty (hygiene protocols will be featured in their own post!). Do you have any questions about masks?
