Unloaded and ready for Duke. Our carriage, correctly described as a vis a vis (face to face) in one of its configurations. When the sky cleared we rolled the top down.

This is my great uncle Frank. My family have done drayage, or been teamsters, or as they called themselves, carter agents, since before anyone we know anything about. My uncle, Peter Toner, is a world class historian specializing in Irish immigration to Canada. He traced our origins back as far as Limavady, Northern Ireland, in the early 1800's. At a time when Catholics were prohibited from owning horses, we had horses, and members of my family could advise the local lord... whether to buy this horse or that. This is an intuition I strive for every day. It's there, but I have to quiet the modern skills I have learned in this lifetime. The horse here with Frank would spend his days harnessed to a sloven, a style of wagon originating from the ship docks of Saint John, New Brunswick. He certainly has no idea what Frank is doing. Sure Frank was pretending to be someone very grand. See more

This was a beautiful wedding by a lake a few years ago, in Clayton. Thr groom built a road down to the lake.

Update on Silver: He started at 1149 lbs and last I checked he was down to 938. He has lost 17% of his body weight and looks fabulous! With the help of medication for his Cushings Disease we hope his weight will stay down. He is off painkillers. The vet comes on September 1, so we hope she will be impressed.
