OH squat pain- mobility vs stability CASE STUDY ---- @tom.jodoin and I have worked alot on his shoulder mobility because of his inability to extend his elbows, he has to find other ways to move. He has had for a while a lower thoracic pain when oh squatting / snatching.... Why? Well in video 1- you can see that his rib cage is quite flared up in the front when the bar is overhead. That can happen for 2 reasons, he either has a shoulder / thoracic mobility restriction or core control issue / (anterior pelvic tilt, extension intolorence, etc). I know for a fact his shoulder mobility has gotten quite good, so option 2 was more likely. Video 2 : coach the movement. Cue : pull your rib cage down. And just see what happens- looks slightly better, abd he reports less pain. Video 3: adding some RNT feedback for him to extend in his upper thoracic spine and not where the pain is (t12-l1 area). Result : even less pain Video 4: Rnt feedback for the shoulder. So he can "feel" where the bar should go". Result: no pain, and moving quite well. He has now a couple of exercices to do to control this rib cage flair in an overhead position. (In a future post ) Coach and cue the movement before starting to stretch a random body part!
When science meets rehab: BFR + Biofeedback After ACL surgery, it gets really hard to recruit the quad. BFR allows hypertrophy at low loads (20-30% of 1 RM)... Biofeedback allows the patient to have a goal when recruting the quad (rectus and VMO). You can only get strenght gains if you know that you are forcing to the max! If you train like an athlete, your rehab should be like an athlete @jlehr3 @mtriggerbiofeedback @hpluscuff #rehabtoperform #aclrehab #physio #physiotherapist #sportsphysio #acl #bfr
Merci beaucoup!
Always intergrate the task at the end of the treatment After a treatment, things move better and start to feel better. But how does that transmit to real life tasks? A couple of weeks ago Julie could barely hold an object over her head. She actually avoided snatches for most of the past 3 years.... Her goal: Get back to snatches. I think she is ready #rehabtoperform #performancephysio #icetrained
How can a bodyweight lunge feel like a lunge at 185? BLOOD FLOW RESTRICTION TRAINING ------ What is BFR?... Simply put, BFR training is a way to stimulate hypertrophy, while loading the muscle with 20-30% of a 1rm. BFR is also reported to help increase VO2 max (another post). How is it done? Specific and individual levels of arterial and venous restriction are measured, and then a cuff is inflated ay that specific pressure in a specific area. Why would you do this? In rehab: - Being able to keep training while injured without overly stressing the joint - Hypertrophy of an injured tissue that is unable to be heavily loaded (pain, partial tear, etc.) Performance training: - accessory work / added volume while minimisng stress on your nervous system and joints Who should perform this? A qualified health professional who has followed courses and or certifications. Is it safe? Yes yes yes. However, a specific health screenining is required before starting. Interested? DM
