Here's Kamil at the wave soldering machine. Wave soldering is the process of soldering larger components to the underside of a printed circuit board. A conveyor moves the board through a spray-flux unit (like a paint sprayer for flux), then through a preheat cycle that makes the flux sticky, and finally over a pump that produces an upwelling of molten solder that looks like a standing wave. A fine example of the intersection of form and function, the atrium of our LEED Platinum-certified South Annex features beautiful exposed wood and stunning George Nelson-designed light fixtures along with a whole system of motorized dampers. Depending on wind speed and direction, these dampers open to allow hot air to rise and escape through the center of the building, providing ventilation by convection and saving tons of energy in the process.
