RE Mountain Secondary School PAC 14.11.2020

Message to the Community Hello everyone, I thought I would send you all a note as this week comes to a close. As you are aware, we received three letters this week regarding exposures in our school. At this point, we have received notices regarding five cases total and it is likely, considering the trend in the Province, that we might receive more as the year progresses. Given the fact that we have over 1750 people in our school, this number is still quite low. While I know e...ven that number can cause anxiety for some of our families, I would like to commend staff and students for the great work they are doing maintaining protocols and limiting in-school transmission. I had the opportunity to be on a conference call with Fraser Health Representatives and the Superintendent this afternoon. We discussed the protocols that are in place including frequent hand-sanitizing (we have staff at each door at the beginning of the day and after lunch reminding students to clean their hands), remaining in cohorts and mask-wearing. Of note is the number of students who are now choosing to wear their masks throughout the day since the quarter switch-over. Fraser Health communicated their confidence in what we are doing and indicated that we are on the right track, especially considering the size of our school. I am delighted with the way our students are choosing to take care of each other and themselves within our school community. While there may still be some bumps along the path, we’re in this together, and through our collective effort, we will continue to make Mountain a safe place to learn. Take care, Magdy Ghobrial, Principal - REMSS

QUARTER CHANGE-OVER Hello everyone, Just a couple of things as we approach the end of the Quarter. The last day of the Quarter is Tuesday, November 17th. Wednesday, November 18th is a non-instructional Design and Assessment Day. November 19th is the first day or Quarter 2. ... Student schedules are loaded on MyEdBC. If you can’t remember how to access your schedule, instructions are in comments. On Thursday, Grade 9s will attend all day as usual. Grade 10-12s will attend in the morning and have those with last names that begin with A-L attend in the afternoon on Thursday and M-Z attend on Friday. Teachers may choose to change the arrangement of their afternoon classes this week. They may choose to split the afternoon classes by grade if it is a split class, or by experience in some electives, or keep it by alphabet, but adjusted to ensure better balancing. The new schedules will take effect on Monday based on the conversations teachers have with students on Thursday and Friday. Report Cards will be posted on MyEdBC on Wednesday, November 25th. Take care, Magdy Ghobrial - Principal, REMSS

As a child, I always looked forward to visiting my grandparents and spending time with them; some of my best childhood memories are created with them, said Alice He, a R.E. Mountain Secondary student. However, since the pandemic, spending time with seniors has been very limited for people everywhere, as seniors are one of the most vulnerable groups of people.

The Eagle Update Nov. 8/20 I hope everyone had a great weekend. As you all know, an email was sent out earlier regarding a second exposure in our school. This isn’t surprising given the increased number of cases in the Fraser Health region. The Provincial Health Office is doing their best to keep schools open right now. Transmission within schools, fortunately, is still extremely low. This is because we are doing a great job adhering to the required protocols. This is again a... reminder about the importance of maintaining our vigilance around those protocols. On Tuesday, at 9:15am we will stop for a while to recognize Remembrance Day. Thank you to Mr. Sidhu and the Drama Department and Ms. Williams and the Chamber Choir for recording a presentation that we will all be able to play in our classrooms. This Sunday, November 8th commemorated National Aboriginal Veterans Day. This day is set aside to acknowledge the contribution of Aboriginal people to the First and Second World War and the Korean War. One of our students made a lovely announcement to the school recognizing that day on Friday. The week after will mark the end of the first quarter. Wow! That went by quickly. The last day of classes is Tuesday, November 17th. There will be no classes on November 18th. Quarter 2 will begin on November 19th. Take care everyone and have a great week. Dates to Note Tuesday, November 10th at 9:15am REMEMBRANCE DAY ASSEMBLY Wednesday, November 11th REMEMBRANCE DAY (No school) Friday, November 13th WORLD KINDNESS DAY Saturday, November 14th HAPPY DIWALI!
