Police want the public to be aware the danger created by impaired drivers traversing local roadways is a prevalent issue that can take place at anytime and anyw...here. Traditionally, impaired driving was most prevalent in the late-night and early-morning hours. Bars, restaurants and pubs were typically areas where impaired driving incidents were more likely. Data collected by the Thunder Bay Police Service throughout 2020 shows these trends have changed drastically. Were seeing that impaired driving is happening at all hours of the day, said TBPS Traffic Unit A/Sgt. Mark Cattani. Its also happening in all areas off the city, thats including residential areas. Nearly 50 per cent of impaired driving arrests made in 2020 have been between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. The Thunder Bay Police Service is sharing this sobering data in hopes the awareness will help law-abiding motorists understand the hazards they may face on their daily commutes. So please ensure your driving habits are defensive and maintain that awareness that any (other motorists) out there, at any time of the day, could be impaired, A/Sgt. Cattani added. A special webpage has been established by the TBPS, which will feature the ongoing efforts the service is making to combat this issue. The webpage, www.thunderbaypolice.ca/impaired, will track impaired driving charges laid by TBPS officers and will be updated on a weekly basis.

On my walk home from work today, I met a couple standing with signs at the Red River/Hwy 11/17 intersection. Theyre raising awareness in the unsolved case of t...his young man, hoping to get word out to people that might have information.
