Although the Reynolds-Alberta Museum is temporarily closed, we thought you might enjoy seeing items from our collection. This snowmobile is a 1979 John Deere Trailfire 440. In the 1960s, snowmobiling was a growing sport, catered to by more than 100 different manufacturers. ... In addition to farm equipment, Deere & Co. was also an active producer of lawn and garden products. With several of their dealers already selling and servicing other snowmobile brands, and a lawn and garden product factory in the heart of snowmobile country, a John Deere sled was a natural fit. Deere & Co. built their first snowmobile prototype in 1969. John Deere introduced their snowmobiles to the public in 1971 with a new advertising slogan: Nothing runs like a Deere. John Deere sold 8,219 Trailfire 440 Snowmobiles in 1979. #MuseumFromHome
