I’m writing today to break the news that we won’t be offering our Spring Training Extension, like we suggested may happen in the month of April - after the COVID-19 shutdown. With the uncertainty of when the business will be permitted to reopen, we have decided to close down for this season and stock our Studio room nicely for the Bike Shop summer season ahead-that we are very hopeful will still be. Thank you for ALL your support and hope to see you in the Fall.

DID YOU KNOW... ROWING is a TOTAL body workout, using all of the body's major muscle groups (arms, legs, back, abdomen, and buttocks) making rowing a superb aerobic and resistance training conditioner.

Here is Michele Beaton’s excellent line of questioning today about the need for a bike bridge as expressed by her constituents. In the 2016 summary report of th...e Stratford resident survey, the danger of riding to Charlottetown was listed as the biggest thing preventing people from enjoying the benefits of active transportation. In the 2019 report for the survey, residents said that improving sidewalks and creating bike lanes is the top priority for capital expenditures. Deliberations have gone on for over a decade now. Each time the need has been highlighted over the years, public officials have stated that they want to see it happen. Structural integrity evaluations have been done on the bridge that included three design examples for a bike lane, and they can be updated with new data as the bridge is renovated now. If an active transportation bridge were to use the access road alongside the bridge to its advantage, I believe a path could be constructed without worry that it would compromise the bridge. In the most recent CBC article about how the plan to execute an active transportation path simultaneously with the sewer expansion that is now happening has been abandoned It is said that it might cost approximately $5 million. last week it was announced that money collected from the reinstated tax on drivers licenses will be earmarked for active transportation infrastructure and the expected revenue is $5 million. Hmmm... Minister Myers gives a sample of a narrative that I expect to hear in the coming months, which is that this funding must be across the whole island so everyone gets their fair share. And he said Michelle is trying to cut in line to advance the bridge at the loss of other rural projects. The problem is, the minister doesn’t say what is in that line. And this is coming from someone who just overspent the road construction budget by $17 million and asked the government to cover it with a special warrant after the fact. It's also unacceptable for a minister to say that because they are new to the position they don't have to be aware of things that the department was working on before. As Michelle points out, continuity in government is key to providing the best supports and policies for Islanders. Research has been done and Myers seems to want to start from square one because it's a new government. He implies that Charlottetown and Stratford do not "have a system worth linking together". Connecting Stratford and downtown is the single most consequential and beneficial investment that can be made on the topic. How many people must live in Stratford and work downtown and drive back and forth? About a 15 min casual bike ride. It would make Stratford accessible for tourists such as cruise ship passengers for retail sales or for a round of golf. People without a car such as teenagers, families with young children could walk with the stroller to downtown safely. A phrase that comes up commonly in the legislature is made-in-PEI solutions. Many things require such an approach, and given that we have a level of jurisdictional independence far exceeding what is normal for such a small place, We should do what we can to ensure policies and actions are special to our situation. However, I would bet that at time you’re reading this, somewhere in the world someone is building an active transportation lane on the side of a bridge. It shouldn’t be complicated to contract an expert to evaluate and tell us what we should do, then do it. It seems like logical determination that the main problem is a lack of political will. Let me know what you think of this video.
