July 16th is a VERY important milestone for Canada - it's the day we made it to 70% of our entire population having at least one dose of the Covid Vaccine (with... 48% fully vaccinated with 2 doses). It's hard to believe given our slow start due to supply shortages, but we're actually #1 in the world right now which makes me very proud. I know some of you are saying "Wait, didn't the news report that we're 80%?" That's because they're using the % of vaccinations of those eligible to receive the vaccine (basically, ages 12 and up). The more important figure to use is the total population since 70% is the target for "herd immunity". With second doses rapidly filling in behind, we're on target for 70% fully vaccinated in mid August. Notice how this correlates with Phase 3 opening in Ontario yesterday, and the recent announcement that the border may open to US travelers mid August? For my American friends, you should know that when the border opens, we will require YOU to be fully vaccinated to come here, so this is your official notice: you have 6 weeks to get both vaccinations if you hope to visit. At Rideau Lakes Cottages we've been juggling and dealing with the covid situation the best we can as has everyone else. Of course everyone wants to go to the cottage, but there are things you can do to be proactive when coming to keep our communities safe. "Quarantine" at the cottage by making the most of delivery services to save unnecessary trips to the stores. We have two amazing grocery stores in our communities. Kudrinkos in Westport has invested in this initiative... by creating an easy online shopping experience and even have a refrigerated delivery van.
