Rideau Valley Outdoors 01.01.2021

I just got home scouting ice conditions in the area. As you can see, we're drastically behind schedule for a typical year after the heavy rain a while back has raised water levels. Flatlined temperatures haven't helped. Open water is a no brainer but what I'm terrified of is the barely frozen over new ice that looks inviting. Mark my words, this will be a tragic weekend on the hard water if anglers don't use EXTREME caution. Do not go alone. Do not go in the dark. Do not become an unnecessary statistic. We all need a break during these troubled times but putting yourself and our first responders at risk is not smart. If you can't get to your honey hole this weekend, big deal. Play it safe and try another spot with better ice and enjoy the fresh air. Maybe you'll surprise yourself and find a new favourite spot to drill and chill.

Make sure to make time for mental health during this next round of lockdowns. No better way than hitting the ice for some fresh air social distancing with a fishing rod and hot coffee.

It's not every day you're checking trail cameras and become totally speechless, but today was that day.

November 11 means a lot to me. Throughout Canada's history our men and women have ALWAYS answered the call. Had they not, would I even exist? What quality of life would I have? Would I get to hunt and fish with my family and friends? Would I get to vote for my government representatives? Freedom was never free. Thank you to all who have or are still serving in the Canadian Forces. We owe you more than one day to remember you.

Day one at deer camp has been blustery and cold!

Rideau Valley Outdoors 10.10.2020

Well it's time to switch gears and today we move into deer camp with family and friends. Shout out to my buddy Kris for harvesting this great doe last night with old school traditional archery equipment. It is awesome to see the next generation step up and use stick and string to get the job done! Congratulations on the success and that will be some top notch table fare. I wish you all the best of luck and have a safe hunt. Make the time to have some fun when the sun goes do...wn at your camp, we all need it a bit more in 2020. Cheers! ____________________________________________ See more

Friday's hunt in the soybeans with Noah and Rob. Thanks for coming back again in 2020! Always a pleasure sharing the blind with you.

Rideau Valley Outdoors 17.09.2020

This morning was day two with Noah and Rob. Field hunt yesterday and hit the water today. Under a full moon and -10C on Halloween, we had to break ice with the boat just to get close to where I wanted to set up. They got into ducks and geese today, but this was the highlight of the hunt. A goose call can easily be manipulated to call swans! Crank up the volume and listen to some marsh trumpets. Scott Threinen's Molt Gear Ducks Unlimited Canada
