The reality is is that the modern breastfeeding journey is rarely easy. Even though many mamas turn the corner where it suddenly gets easier, it doesn’t mean th...at happens, or continues on a linear path. This means that support is paramount at all points of a mum and bubs journey. This unique pair, you and your baby are forever vulnerable to the changes that happen over time. Yet you always deserve support for no other reason apart from the fact that you want to breastfeed your baby. Why you want to is your own why, but that is irrelevant to everyone else. Everyone around you *simply* needs to support you, and if they don’t, then their role or influence in your village may be questionable. 99% of women can physiologically breastfeed their babies but our support (or lack there of) networks are what fail women. Mothers do not fail to feed their babies. Mothers only ever do the best they can with what they have. So I’m calling a spade a spade. These phrases are not supportive of your journey. Culturally and generationally your village may have a different level of understanding about breastfeeding. They might lack to knowledge to be able to support you. I’d encourage you to involve those closest to you in learning, even watching our breastfeeding guide. At bare minimum, if they don’t have the answers, then they should support you to find a professional who does! RMDS would like to introduce our newest doula Bailey. Keep an eye out for very exciting news in the next few days! Bailey decided to start her doula journey October 2020 after a very difficult pregnancy that was made easier by having a doula by her and her husband's side. She had her beautiful daughter Amelia amidst the pandemic and welcomes any questions you may have about her pregnancy and birth. She is knowledgeable, helpful, caring, and passionate; she strongly believes that you deserve a positive birth experience and will encourage you to reach for the stars. When she isn't reading and studying, she is spending every moment loving on her sweet 5 month old and cuddling with her hubby.
