Today, we recognize ' , and celebrate the strong, passionate women in our aviation community. At Rise Air, we have 60 inspirational women on our team, 8 of whom are pilots, and 31% of our management team is led by women! In 1975, the United Nations proclaimed March 8 as International Women’s Day, honoring the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. Coincidentally, Raymonde de Laroche became the first woman in the world to... earn her pilot’s license on March 8, 1910! The 1970s also saw two major achievements by women in aviation. The first woman to be hired by a scheduled airline (Frontier Airlines) was Emily Howell Warner, and then Bonnie Tiburzi took the controls as the first female pilot for a major commercial airline (American Airlines). It wasn’t until December 2018 that the first woman, Anne Rigail of Air France, became the CEO of a major airline. Evidently, the aviation industry has been an especially difficult one for women to advance in. On Wednesday, March 2, 2022, Rise Air flight 280 departed Prince Albert, SK destined for Fond-du-Lac, SK. During the flight, a passenger became unruly and disruptive, giving the flight crew no choice but to turn around and return the passenger to Prince Albert, where he was taken into custody by the RCMP. The aircraft landed safely in Prince Albert; however, a delay can be expected to its planned destination of Fond-du-Lac as a result. Rise Air is committed to ensuring the protection and safety of all passengers and communities we serve. We have a zero-tolerance policy for disruptive behaviour and interference with flight crew members.
