This Jetta looks unassuming from the front! But it is a very unique conversion from Smyth Performance that one of our customers uses to haul car parts. These conversions are very neat and nothing screams utilitarian like a TDI truck capable of 1000km plus per tank and a 750lb cargo capacity to haul parts around.

Often, we have to help customers understand the differences between services on their vehicle. And how we get to those conversations is because the customer asks questions, What we tend to forget at times is that some folks aren't brave enough to ask us a question for fear of feeling silly. We know that not every person is car savvy nor do they have an interest in what makes a vehicle tick. But we are going to start a weekly Q&A session. So think of any automotive related que...stions you may have and we will do our best to provide you with an answer. We hope to keep this to a broad, Educational questions. Not Specific car, specific problem related questions. To get the ball rolling, we are going to talk about Wheel Alignment VS Wheel Balance. These 2 services are very different, and often we get requests to perform one of these services to correct an issue a customer is having. But the service requested won't correct that issue. Wheel alignment issues are an issue with the vehicle itself. The suspension and steering components need adjusting to ensure the wheels and tires are pointing in the correct direction. A poor alignment has many symptoms (Steering wheel off centre, Car pulls one way or the other, Car may feel unsteady in lower traction driving like snow or ice, abnormal tire wear, etc.) Wheel balance issues are an issue with the wheel/tire combo itself. The symptoms largely associated with a wheel/tire out of balance include a shimmy or shake noted in the car at certain speeds, abnormal tire wear, etc. There are numerous reasons for the balance to be off, Any time a tire is installed onto a wheel, it needs to be balanced. But an out of round wheel will cause a vibration, as would a tire with abnormal wear or damage (like a bulge, or steel belts separating internally) So, we hope this helps clear up the difference between wheel alignments VS wheel balance. We have talked about carbon buildup on intake valves of Direct Injected vehicles before, But this was the most recent intake valve cleaning we have performed. The vehicle shown in the pictures is a 2015 VW Tiguan with less than 60 thousand Km on the odometer. This amount of carbon buildup is severe enough to cause driveability issues, Misfires, poor fuel mileage and performance. We get the intake valves looking near new by using the "Walnut Blasting" method, where crushed wal...nut shells are the media used to remove the buildup so no damage/pitting occurs to any surface the shells are sprayed at. The time it takes to setup the equipment and perform the cleaning of the intake valves is roughly 30 minutes per cylinder (2 hours for a 4 cylinder, 3 hours for a 6 cylinder, ETC) and those times are above and beyond what it takes to remove the intake manifold from the cylinder head to gain access to the intake valves. When people refer to a car as a sleeper, they generally mean that the car is much faster than looks of the vehicle would suggest. Audi really hit the nail on the head with the Audi RS3! To the untrained eye, it appears to be just another version of Audi’s entry level A3 sedan. But these cars pack some punch, with the 400hp 2.5L turbocharged engine, AWD, and factory launch control, this car is capable of 0-60 times in the mid 3 second range and low 12 second 1/4 mile times. An...d that is in stock form. With some bolt ons and a tune, the car becomes a giant killer! Working over much more exotic cars with ease. We are fortunate enough to have customers excited by these numbers and willing to take advantage of the power that can be unleashed from the exotic sounding 5 cylinder. Now that you know what these cars are capable of, watch out for them, as they tend to be unassuming predators lurking the streets of Edmonton (even in the winter months as seen here!) See more

Since March we have been providing contact free service with the waiting area closed. Back then we were seeing 50ish Covid19 cases a day now we are at 300+, this is concerning and making us question what to do now that winter is almost here. Please let us know what you think. Now that the snow has hit the ground and stayed overnight, We are experiencing a larger than a normal volume of calls and cars getting booked in for the winter rush, plus numerous tow ins. Front end Friday! It’s a fantastic day, and we have a few generations of the R version of VW’s Golf. The R32 is the most menacing out of this bunch since it has an aftermarket turbo setup on it. The MK6 golf R is one of our favourites since they are not common place and they are equipped with a manual transmission. The MK7 golf R is one of the most well rounded vehicles you can drive. And if you do not love the hatchback, you can get An Audi S3 that shares the same engine, drivetrain, brakes and driving demeanour as the MK7 Golf R.

We have bad news to report, Winter is coming, and there will be snow, and perhaps, lots of snow! But we have good news, We can supply you with winter tires, or install your existing winter tires (Rates vary depending on tire sizing) Plus we will perform an Alignment check + suspension/steering check FREE OF CHARGE! That is right, we said it, FREE! We have to put our new Hunter Alignment machine to work. If your alignment is not within spec, we can perform the alignment then and there! The cost of having a wheel alignment performed is less expensive than having to replace even just one of your tires prematurely due to abnormal wear caused by a bad alignment. We have a great bunch of cars at the shop today, a nifty sportwagon that recently received the coilover treatment, a MK5 R32 with a hefty amount of power with the help of a rather sizeable turbocharger, one very nice Audi S5 cab that is much more rapid than it should be and a B5.5 VW Passat 1.8T 4-Motion Wagon with just over 30 thousand km on the odometer, the car is a time capsule. It is what you would have seen in a VW showroom 15+ years ago. Not pictured is a bunch of other fun cars but this lineup had to be documented.

We have a pretty special guest in the building today. Herman the very well done 1960 VW BUS, is in for some suspension and steering adjustments. The owner has done a great job with this bus from start to finish!

We had a new wheel alignment machine delivered and installed this week, we spent some time with the installer as he gave us a very thorough run down of the machine and we are very excited to put this machine to use! We are very excited to have customers bring in their brand new cars for fun stuff. This golf R has some mild bolt ons, and is NOT running flash software, just a warranty friendly Burger Motorsports JB4 piggy back setup. If the weather is good on Friday, we are hoping to get some runs in at Edmonton's Castrol Raceway to hopefully get the car into the 11 second 1/4 mile range with room to grow.

Albertas quickest and fastest MK7 was in today for an alignment, a few tricks were performed to hopefully get him his personal best for 60’ times! If you are going to the tuner bash hosted by 780Tuners at Edmonton's Castrol Raceway today. Keep an eye out for this unassuming hot hatchback!!

We took 1st place overall in trying conditions last weekend in our spec miata (with weight and restrictor plate removed). Started in the dry, then it started to rain increasing to a downpour and then tapering of for the finish. Drivers Chris and Robin Saunders drove a consistent quick race. After 2 hrs we were 2 laps up on 2nd place. The Bridgestone Re71r was the perfect tire to be on. Thanks to the crew- Patrick Irwin, Andrew Morrish for a flawless pitstop! ... After seeing the Xforce exhaust in person. It is rather well built, the features are great, no instructions unfortunately, but it is really awesome to see a valved exhaust system that does more than the factory exhaust. We have not played with the Bluetooth setup or gps features, that will be up to the customer to play with. We now know where to get the Xforce exhaust in Canada so if you are interested, let us know and we will steer you in the right direction.

The Audi club of Western Canada had a super fun Saturday planned, the Northern Alberta portion of the poker rally attendees met up at Rivercity Motors before they headed south. It was great hosting them and seeing them off on their adventure!

ND Miata belongs to one of our fave customers, the Fiat abarth is rather modified and belongs to another one of our favourite customers, and the dodge 1500 is ready for camper pulling duty, and it belongs to yet another one of our favourite customers. 2 of these vehicles belong to ladies, guess which ones!

We had a little comparison, factory height AUDI S4, and one that we just lowered using H&R OE sport springs. The 15mm it lowers the car makes a difference for looks and performance. Still fully functional dynamic suspension, rides as good, if not better than stock, and gets rid of the wheel gap just enough to make these cars even more eye pleasing!

When someone takes an already rapid, very modern car, and decides that it should be faster, this is what it means to be a car nut, this particular customer decided that upgrading to stock RS7 turbos wasn't going to cut it, so he decided that a pair of Silly Rabbit Motorsports Hybrid RS7 turbos were going to be the hot ticket! It doesn't matter if you drive a new Audi S7, a 40 year old VW Scirocco, a 30 year old Miata or a Golf TDI, when you are a car person, you have the desire to make changes to your car. We are enthusiasts through and through and love to see when folks scratch the automotive itch! This doesn't mean that we only do upgrades, We still are here to help with all your maintenance and repair needs.

Just dialing in the ride height on another Miata in for coilover install, then onto the alignment rack for a street alignment. This Mazdaspeed Miata will be ready for some fun, top down driving by the end of the day.

This quick and easy guide to checking the tread on your tires. We have a very strong opinion on winter tires being the best thing you can purchase to help with Alberta's winter driving experience and this guide is catered more to an all season tire. But you get the point. If you happen to drive a Volkswagen 4-Motion equipped car, or one of the certain few Audi Quattro equipped cars, there is what is known as a "Haldex" fluid exchange. Many vehicles have a filter to be replaced, and others just have the fluid drained and refilled with fresh fluid. This is to be done every 55-60K according to VW and Audi, We take this Haldex fluid exhange 1 step further by removing the Haldex fluid pump and cleaning out it's pick up screen. This extra service is... under $70 (on top of the Haldex service which prices vary depending on model of vehicle) but it can save you a ton of headaches and a costly repair bill in the future should the pump fail. Next time you have your car booked in for a Haldex service, whether it is with us, or you are doing it yourself. Make sure the pump is removed to have the screen cleaned out. This particular car pictured has just over 100k on the odometer and this is it's second service. See more
