Town Council provided third reading to Bylaw 2076, the Face Coverings Bylaw. This Bylaw is in effect now and will remain in effect until 14 days after regional ...case numbers drop below 10 active cases. While in effect the Face Coverings Bylaw requires all persons to wear a face covering over their nose and mouth while in an indoor public premise or a public vehicle. Exemptions include: children under five-years-old, or persons with an underlying medical condition or disability which inhibits their ability to wear a face covering. It is offence under this Bylaw to harass any person who wears or does not wear a face covering. Business owners can find signage on our website that can be downloaded and printed. For immediate release November 3, 2020 Peace River School Division (PRSD) has decided to cancel the administration of grade six and nine provincial achievement ...tests (PATS) for the 2020-2021 school year due to the disruption in classes caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result of the disruptions caused by COVID-19 in the spring when in-school classes were cancelled and the current state of reality with COVID-19 related absences, it would not be supportive to expect students in grades six and nine to write exams in subjects they may or may not have had the opportunity to cover thoroughly says Paul Bennett, Superintendent of Schools. In addition, without the pressure and distraction of preparing students to write PATS, grades six and nine teachers can more adequately ensure students are well prepared to master the essential outcomes in all their courses. While PRSD values the importance of the PATS, the division hopes that this decision will relieve some of the pressure and anxiety students and staff are experiencing caused by the pandemic. PRSD teachers remain committed to delivering the authorized curriculum and utilizing quality formative and summative assessment practices. They are also committed to ensuring student progress is monitored and supports are implemented according to individual student needs. Alberta school divisions were given the option by the Alberta Government to decide if the exams would be written. PRSD, along with most neighbouring school divisions in Zone One (Northwestern Alberta), and several other school divisions in the province have decided to opt-out of administering the provincial achievement tests for the 2020-2021 school year.
