Tooth pain? Trauma? Infection? We are equipped to handle all forms of dental emergencies and pride ourselves on seeing patients in pain the same day. Whether it be a fall from an accident or a painful tooth, we will make sure to see you the same day to assess the issue and provide treatment as needed. Our clinic is fully equipped and our staff members are trained to handle a variety of dental emergencies. Many visits to the emergency room for dental-related issues can be very... time consuming for both the patient and hospital. Most dental-related problems require the patient to see the dentist afterward regardless please make us your first call instead. If the emergency warrants a trip to the hospital or a dental specialist we will be sure to make those arrangements for you. We are open evenings and weekends and do our best to answer our email outside of office hours. Examples of dental emergencies that would warrant an immediate visit to our clinic: Dental trauma to the mouth or teeth (place dislodged teeth in milk) Dental infection/abscess (swelling) in the mouth or of the surrounding area Severe toothache Broken tooth Wisdom tooth pain Jaw fracture Persistent bleeding of gums around trauma Object stuck between teeth that cannot be dislodged with floss If you are experiencing any of these issues please contact us directly at 519.621.2111. #emergencydental #riverfrontdental #toothpain

Makeover Monday! We wanted to share with you our very happy patient! This patient wanted the white and brown stains removed from her upper front teeth (lateral and central incisors) and a brighter smile. We were able to achieve both goals by using the ICON resin infiltration system by DMG, a minimally invasive approach to white spot removal! With just a bit of polishing of the teeth and a few steps of cleansing away the white spots, then sealing the teeth up, we were able to ...achieve these beautiful results without drilling! Our patient can now smile more confidently without worrying about white or brown staining on her front teeth. But always keeping in mind to be wary of beverages that can stain the teeth like coffee and tea. Book your visit at Riverfront Dental and let us help you smile your brightest and healthiest smile! #stainremoval #riverfrontdental #brightersmile

The best way to prevent the buildup of plaque and tartar on the teeth is by flossing once a day and brushing twice a day with fluoride toothpaste. Regular dental checkups and professional cleanings can also help prevent and treat oral health problems. Dentists examine the whole mouth, checking for signs of tooth decay and gum disease. They will also remove any plaque or tartar on the surface of the teeth and in difficult-to-reach places. Dentists can also treat the teeth with... fluoride to help prevent tooth decay. Dietary changes can also help prevent plaque and tartar buildup. Cutting back on sugar, starch, and acidic foods can reduce the risk of tooth decay. To reduce the risk of plaque and tartar, a person should avoid: Cookies, cake, and candy Starchy or sugary foods that can stick to the teeth, such as bread, potato chips, and some d dried fruits Soda and sports drinks Citrus juices The buildup of plaque and tartar on the teeth can lead to gum disease, enamel loss, and tooth decay. Poor oral hygiene may also play a role in the development of other health conditions. Brushing twice daily with fluoride toothpaste and flossing once daily are the best ways to remove plaque from teeth and prevent tartar from forming. #plaqueandtartarprevention #riverfrontdental #tips

Do you know the signs of Gingivitis and how to treat it? Gingivitis, the earliest stage of gum disease, is inflammation of the tissues surrounding and supporting the teeth and is most commonly a result of poor dental hygiene. Gingivitis is a very common condition and varies widely in severity. Gingivitis starts when food debris mixes with saliva and bacteria which, in turn, forms dental plaque that sticks to the surfaces of teeth. If dental plaque isn't removed by brushing with toothpaste and flossing, it can become mineralized and form tartar, or calculus. Tartar is very hard, and only professional dental cleaning can remove it.

Well, that sweet time of year is almost here as Halloween is just around the corner. The kids are sure to get plenty of sweet sugary treats from trick or treating, scavenger hunting or crushing a pinata. We want to make sure that parents are aware of the dental issues partially attributed to sugar intake. Sugary candy can turn anyone’s mouth into a nightmare. By taking a few preventative steps, however, children can Halloween without harming their teeth. Sweets are especiall...y harmful since damaging acids form in the mouth every time you a sugary snack and continue to affect the teeth for at least 20 minutes before they are neutralized. Since sugar-free gum is one treat that actually helps prevent cavities. Parents can also give it to their children to neutralize the effects of that sugary snack after eating. Chewing sugar-free gum reduces cavities as the chewing motion stimulates the flow of saliva, which helps cleanse the teeth. The worst candy to have is taffy and candies with caramel, coconut, or nuts because they stick to everything inside of your mouth, including the grooves of your teeth. The longer a food sticks to your teeth, the longer the bacteria can feed on it which could produce cavity-causing acid. The second worst is hard candy like lollipops and jawbreakers. Although they do not stick to your mouth, they take a long time to dissolve. The longer the candy stays in your mouth, the more acidic your mouth becomes. Now chocolate, with no sticky fillings, will generally not stick to your teeth and therefore is a much better option if you are eating candy or craving something sweet. But again sugar-free gum is always going to be your best treat. And of course, we all know the best way to prevent those cavity bugs is to brush our teeth after all those yummy treats! #halloweentreats #riverfrontdental #brushyourteeth

A new awareness of bad breath is now on the rise due to the fact that we all have to wear masks! The best way to reduce bad mask breath is: Regular cleanings at a dental office Regular care of your oral health including gentle brushing 2-3x daily Flossing at least 1x per day... Mouth rinsing with water or mouthwash intermittently throughout the day Reducing sugary snacks and frequency of snacking throughout the day Sticking to water as the go-to beverage throughout the day Keeping hydrated Using sugar-free gums and mints Consider upgrading to a Power Brush Consider adding a Waterpik after flossing to your daily regimen #maskbreath #riverfrontdental #tips

We've received many interesting questions about preserving dental health during the Covid-10 pandemic, like "How important is flossing right now, is it safe to put our fingers in our mouth when we are being discouraged from touching our face?" To put it simply, flossing is VERY important. There are five surfaces to every tooth and when you only brush and don't floss, you're only cleaning three of those surfaces. It would be like showering and only washing your hair, torso,... and back and leaving the rest untouched. Especially now, when being as clean and healthy throughout our entire body is of utmost importance. That brings us to the second part of this question: Is it safe to put our fingers in our mouth to floss? Yes, but make sure to follow the usual safety/cleanliness recommendations. Wash your hands, thoroughly, first. Do not floss in public. Let's keep our germs to ourselves and only floss in the comfort of our own homes. #floss #dentalhygiene #healthyhabits

Brushing seems like such an easy thing to do right? Then why do so many people do it so infrequently or ineffectively? Here are some easy tips to make brushing more effective and help you reduce your risk of cavities, gum disease, and bad breath. 1. Brush twice a day for 2 minutes each time with a fluoride toothpaste 2. Hold your toothbrush with the bristles at a 45-degree angle to your teeth to brush the area where the teeth and gums meet and don’t forget to brush all surfac...es of the teeth like the biting surfaces too 3. Don’t rinse your mouth out with water or mouthwash after brushing 4. Always brush your tongue or use a tongue scraper 5. Don’t brush right after drinking something acidic like soda or orange juice 6. Consider investing in an electric toothbrush Improving your oral hygiene is easy and doesn’t take much time at all! The biggest thing you’ve got to do is make a habit of it. A habit takes about 21 days of practice before it is ingrained. After it is a habit, it won’t feel difficult or like it is a chore and it’ll make a huge difference in your oral health. #oralhealth #riverfrontdental #brushyourteeth

We have been celebrating National Dental Hygiene Month all October! Everyone loves a clean mouth, right? We think keeping mouths clean on a regular basis is worth celebrating! This month has been dedicated to promoting healthy mouths all across the country and celebrating the hard work our dental hygienists (Kariann, Rachel, Nancy and Jennifer) do to keep your pearly whites squeaky clean. Good oral health is good for overall health and is an important part of National Dental ...Hygiene Month. What you put in your mouth and how you take care of your teeth and gums plays a huge part in your overall health. Most people know that poor dental care leads to cavities but not taking care of your smile can also lead to serious health issues. For more information visit the below link to our blog on oral and total health: https://www.riverfrontdental.ca/oral-health-and-your-total/ #nationaldentalhygienemonth #riverfrontdental #celebrate

September Is National Gum Care Month! Are you taking proper care of your gums? Not only do the gums protect your teeth, but the health of your gums can impact other health conditions you may have. Although gingivitis may develop easily, it is also easy to prevent as long as you stick to a consistent dental hygiene routine. We strongly recommend brushing and flossing your teeth thoroughly at least two times a day. Keep in mind that when you brush your teeth and gums, you sh...ould not be too aggressive. Brushing your gums too hard can damage them and cause them to bleed. Early recognition and action are the most important steps to health gums, and ultimately a healthy body, too! One of the most important steps to improving the care of your gums is recognizing the warning signs for gum disease. These can include: ~Gums that appear red or swollen ~Gums that feel tender ~Gums that bleed easily (during brushing or flossing) ~Gums that recede or pull away from the teeth ~Persistent halitosis, or bad breath ~Loose teeth ~Any change in the way teeth come together in the biting position If you notice any of these signs, please schedule an appointment at our convenient Cambridge office as soon as possible. Dr. Kim and our team can take proactive steps to prevent gingivitis and gum disease while showing you how to improve gum care in your daily hygiene habits. #gumcare #gumcaremonth #healthygums

Some bad breath just cant be covered up. Now that dentists have reopened their doors, theyre having patients show up with a nasty set of symptoms, which the doctors have dubbed mask mouth. The new oral hygiene issue caused by, you guessed it, wearing a mask all the time to prevent the spread of the coronavirus is leading to all kinds of dental disasters like decaying teeth, receding gum lines, and seriously sour breath. Help prevent cavities by using a fluoride toothpaste and mouth rinse! Toothpaste's containing fluoride help prevent cavities in both children and adults. To help strengthen weak spots and exposed roots, and to help prevent the early stages of tooth decay, brush regularly with a fluoridated toothpaste. Rinsing your mouth with a mouthwash that contains fluoride is another way to help protect you and your family from cavities.... #fluoride #riverfrontdental #preventcavitites

Is the stress from this pandemic taking a toll on your teeth? Pandemic-induced stress is taking a toll on our mental health, physical health, and overall well-being. We are seeing an increase in the number of patients coming in with cracked, chipped, or fractured teeth, as well as pain and soreness from nighttime grinding. These are often a secondary result of stress. The Canadian Dental Association says there have been reports of an increase in COVID-19-induced nightmares... and pandemic-related anxiety causing clenching and grinding. Aside from discomfort, this can wear down tooth surfaces over time. Regardless of the cause, if you start to notice symptoms from clenching and grinding, there are things you can do to mitigate the potential negative consequences, such as wear a mouthguard. Mouthguards are one way to help fight the habit. At first, it might not be easy for some people to get used to wearing them but the long term benefits are great. They are also covered by most dental plans. If you are experiencing any soreness of the jaw or tooth pain do not hesitate to give us a call at (519) 621-2111 and book an appointment. #pandemicstress #mouthguard #dentalcare

We all know how bad sugar is for your overall health and your teeth but sometimes it is hidden. Smoothies may look nutritious, but many are actually sugar bombs. The brightly coloured hues of smoothies are misleading because they suggest that the fresh fruits and vegetables they contain automatically make them a healthy choice. While the fresh produce is nutritious, it's the added sugar in other ingredients that you need to worry about when it comes to making a smoothie choi...ce. Smoothies can be part of a healthy diet when they're prepared with the right ingredients. Choose smoothies made with 100 percent fruit or vegetable juice because they don't contain added sugars. Restaurant smoothies and bottled smoothies that contain fruit-flavoured juices, frozen yogurt, sherbet, sorbet, or ice cream, can contain more than an entire day's worth of added sugar. Be sure and read labels, or even better, make your smoothies at home with all of the right ingredients. #healthyeating #healthyteeth #healthysmile

We know how tiring teething can be, for both babies and parents! It is a lot of work getting those first teeth to come through. Once they do, give us a call. Babies should be seen for a check-up at the appearance of their first tooth to get them acclimated to the dental office and to make sure all is going well. To learn more check out "First visit, first tooth" from the Canadian Dental Association. https://qoo.ly/37v8gt #kidsdentistry #babyteeth #firsttooth

As we start to prepare to return to school, it is time to put an end to grazing. This past summer has thrown off the eating schedule for even the healthiest of homes. It is now a good time to get back into the habit of planning meals ahead and eating at the table at a specific time. Starting this now is a good idea. Kids are going to be going through a lot of changes when they had back, especially this year, so preparing them is more important than ever. Try planning together. Purchase some healthy snacks and plan out meals that the family can enjoy together. Then get back into a routine by eating at similar times each day. And remember to brush those teeth! #cambridgeon #backtoschool #backtoroutine
