Our clinic firmly believes in local businesses and supporting other practitioners. We now have a business card board on our door. This is also covid friendly, as cards are taken we will replace them with a fresh new one. If you want a referral to anyone else we can do that too!... #riversrmt #supportlocal #durhamregion

So happy I got my hands on a copy of this. I'm working to improve my reading game lately as I've never been a real reader. You Have So Much Potential is complied by the @michellefrancissmith and I can not wait to get started. As Michelle was one of my instructors at @sutherlandchanschool MT school and is probably the top instructor out of a handful that made a major impact on me and my career. Please if you are an RMT or other practitioner please support Michelle and her te...am of writers! Thank you Michelle #youhavesomuchpotential

Massage Therapy Awareness Week, Oct 25 to 31, 2020 "RMTs are an important part of health care teams, and massage therapy can help people recover from an illness or injury, manage the physical symptoms of mental health issues, remain active, mobile and pain free, and improve their quality of life." - RMTAO This week is supported by the Registered Massage Therapist Association of Ontario (RMTAO), and this year they are focusing on how Massage Therapists have helped support the ...public through the stressors of COVID-19. I too will be sharing how #MassageTherapy can help support you on your health and wellness life journey and through the many seasons we as humans have. Stay tuned this whole week and please feel free to share in the comments how Massage Therapy has positively impacted or supported you! #RiversRMT #AskYourRMT #MTAW2020 #MassagetherapyAwareness #durhamregion #clarington #oshawa #whitby

It's okay to start back at the beginning. My last logged run in my Couch to 5k app was August 25th. Where I only had 10 runs left to conclude my 5k training. I was on week 6 of 9 and I had to stop. I was mad at myself but I also realized I was in pain. So I had to put my ego on the back seat and put my therapist hat on.... I had developed some tendinitis in my Achilles and/or Planteris tendons. Through massage treatments with other practitioner, cupping myself, chiro treatments, acupuncture, stretching, strengthening and another pair a new shoes. I finally felt well enough to get back out there. Over 8 WEEKS later. However I knew that I needed to start from the beginning. I can honestly say though I am 100% okay with that. I take this training as a fitness journey not a race. I never dreamt one day I could run a 5k so the fact I'm training for it is a win to me. So if you are just starting out or starting over, know you aren't alone, I am there with you. I do also suggest getting a team behind you of health care providers and/or coaches to support you along the way. That is totally up to you. I did tag as many therapists and support I could that helped me get back. Thank you everyone! Next goal is going to be, handstands! #riversrmt #fitness #health #movementismedicine #movement #therapy #massagetherapy #runnersofinstagram #ImBack

We wrap our arms around you and support you through your grieving process, no matter what phase you are in. Please allow yourself to take what you need from Nicole's words. Bookmark this post, you may save a life. This post contains information on mental health and wellness resources in the durham region. Saving this post can be a personal resource for yourself or for you to share with someone else in need.... We need to reduce the stigma of mental health and wellness in our society. We need to stop measuring everyone with the same ruler as everyone has different lived experiences. We all have different needs, tolerances, boundaries and goals. So please be kind and respectful of each other. I will touch later on how massage therapy can be a complementary treatment for mental health. #RiversRmt #mentalhealthawareness #mentalhealthawarenessweek #resources #wellnesswednesday #wellness #oshawa #durhamrwgion #whitbyontario #Courtice #bowmanville #ajaxontario

Well have you? There are so many articles out there discussing when the best time of day is to move/exercise. I say whenever works for you and your schedule. However...... Take the following into account: Getting movement in the morning is beneficial as you just spent the last 6-9 hours sleeping/sitting. (not including the time sitting in front of the TV before bed). Getting up and going for even just a 10 min stroll around the block with your morning tea or coffee may be a better idea than sitting in front of the TV or pulling out the newspaper. It is beneficial for your physical being, giving your muscles and joints some time to wake up, stretch out and get blood going. This also can help get synovial joint flowing which is beneficial for joint health. It is also great for your mental and emotional well being. Instead of flooding your brain with news and stress first thing, you can take the time to let your brain slowly wake up and set an intension for your day. You will get a few minutes of silence, internal reflection as well as offer you a sense of accomplishment, which can help you start your day "on the right foot". ALSO! Movement at the end of the day can also be beneficial after a day or sitting or running around, with your brain turned on doing its job of multitasking and problem solving. You would benefit time again to focus on you, internalize your thoughts, process the day all while allowing your body to "cool down". So think about how you can warm up for your day or cool down from it. Why not implement a way to do both. Whatever or whenever it is... JUST MOVE!

Consistently (adv.) in every case or on every occasion; INVARIABLY. TLDR: The key is CONSISTENCY.... This key is based on many factors in YOUR life. Injury/condition rehab Healing process/stage Stress levels Your schedule Your finances As health care provider, my focus is on the first 3. I will suggest the best treatment plan including frequency of your treatments based on how to achieve your health & wellness goals. This is based on research and clinical evidence I have learned through school and practice. For example: 1 Acute injuries/pain may cause an increase in frequency in a shorter period of time until the pain had decreased or function has returned. 2 Chronic conditions may require focus on finding the timing that works for you, where we stay ahead of pain/dysfunction. 3 Stress/Burnout/Mood Disorder management I would suggest VERY consistent (ie 1 treatment every 4 weeks) to provide your mind and body time that it can count on to unwind and destress. HOWEVER, this frequency can shift and change depending on the seasons of your life. Treatment plans evolve and change as you evolve and change. I WANT to discuss treatment frequency with you. I will suggest frequency based on evidence informed healing structures, however I NEVER want you to feel pressure to extend yourself beyond your time and financial means. That will increase your stress level which will compromise your healing process. Let's work together to find a CONSISTENT schedule that works for you! (This is not meant to be medical advice, but more information on how we, RMTs, structure your care. Speak directly with your RMT or health care provider for options specific to your care)

What software is your brain running? If you are struggling with chronic pain I suggest talking to your health care professional about creating a wellness plan that incorporates treatments for the body and the mind. Check out the Curable Health app and blog, there is some great information there that can give you a better understanding of how the mind plays a role in our pain status.... https://www.curablehealth.com//chronic-pain-more-than-mech

"Habits are the compound interest of self-improvement" - James Clear This is a powerful graph that can be applied to any aspect of your life. However, I am going to focus today on your physical health & mental wellness as a whole. I hear and see a common belief that health is a sprint, to which you have to hurry and make big changes to reach the finish line and then you are set for life. Which is FAR FROM TRUE. Your health and wellness is a life long journey that is cont...inuously evolving and growing with you, which means even just making a change for the better by 1% every day will get you to your goal faster than you think. That also being said I like to use this notion with my chronic pain/injury patients. For these patients it is very much a mental journey as much as it is physical. I see so much how tired they are from being in pain and they may think they need to push through and "just do it anyway". I explain this is basically taking 3 steps forward, to only go back 4. Which in the end, gives you a negative Net outcome, even though you are putting in so much effort. The Power of Tiny Gains may be a more helpful ideology to accept to make a bigger change in the long run. The key is consistency. You may not feel you are making improvements because they are so small but sticking with it for longer periods of time will allow you to reach your goals and better chances of maintaining them. This also goes for your massage treatment, there may be times where I am working lighter than "normal". However, this may be because I feel you are in a season where you need smaller gains, more consistently in order to meet your goals and not overtax your system. I want to avoid Net Negative when it comes to your care. #riversrmt #massagetherapy #wellness #health #poweroftinygains #jamesclear #qualityoflife *this is not medical advice and should not be taken as such. each individual has their own needs, please see your own health care provider*
