Who will win? Game at 1 p.m. Get in your last tennis before the storm, settle in for the afternoon match and watch the snowfall!
Bumble bee on the court! Is it spring? Feels like it!... This weather has been amazing. We're still going. In hats, mitts, shorts, layers, t-shirts, or all the above some days. Doesn't matter what you wear if you're still out here on November 20th. #fall #tennis #bumblebee
Yes, that's Gill warming tennis balls. The solution to winter tennis! The balls don't bounce in the cold. So pop them in the oven @ 120 for 10 minutes. They bounce nicely for 30 minutes. And they are slow on the court! Here's the story on this great winter tip: https://minnesota.cbslocal.com//how-to-play-outdoor-tenni/
We remember the veterans who served. Their sacrifices will not be forgotten. We are grateful. And we thank those who continue to serve our country each and every day, some of whom are members of our club. ... #canadaremembers #remembranceday
Neva Bruce built this garden 25 years ago. On Thanksgiving weekend, she returned to tend to her beautiful space. She gave it some love, got it ready for fall and added plants from her home garden. We are very thankful! Neva, 87, is a former club manager and looked after our garden for 30 years. She's also a former club champion in mixed and women's doubles. She's an example of why a club is never just a place to play tennis. It truly is a community of friends, family and vo...lunteers. And it's a place where you're always connected and always belong. Neva's grandson Jeff worked at the club this summer. Here he is, broom in hand. Jeff and Neva were both hard at work on our last official day. Welcome back Neva and we look forward to seeing you soon! See more
The view from our courts! Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! From our tennis family to yours! Today is the last official day for the clubhouse and staff. After today, members can still book online and use the courts until the nets come down. And a reminder you can buy new RLTC hats and shirts for friends and family. Check the newsletter in your email for more details. Makes a good Christmas gift!... Thank you to all our staff and members for a wonderful season! Stay safe. #fall #Thanksgiving #endofseason #thankful
We are excited to welcome Dan Vila to our incredible team of pros! Dan has more than fifteen years of experience in the sports and fitness industry in Ottawa. As a junior in Mexico, Dan trained and competed in local and national tennis tournaments. He then went on to play soccer at a competitive level in Canada. Dan enjoys teaching players of all ages & levels who are looking to develop a long term love for the sport!... You can reach Dan at [email protected] to set up private or semi-private lessons.
Congratulations to Paula Dunn who prevailed in our women's singles consolation winner vs. Natalie Montgomery! It was a great match between tennis friends, doubles partners and competitors. Thanks to all our participants this year! It was a strange one with Covid and back-to-school but we had lots of fun matches and good times with tennis friends on the deck! One of the best parts about tournaments is meeting new people and finding new tennis partners!
Well, that was a fantastic women's singles final to close our tournament season! It lasted nearly three hours with Jennifer Munn taking the trophy for a second year! Congratulations to Jennifer and finalist Sandra Ng. It was a close one: 7-6, 7-5! Lots of excellent points and the players showed grit and great sportsmanship. It was evenly matched but with both players showing very different styles of play. The game wasn't without drama, either. We had an injury timeout when ...Sandra rolled her ankle, a first game that lasted a long 12 minutes, and our ump had to make a rare call on the very first point when Sandra's ball sailed long but hit Jennifer's shoe while she was standing well behind the baseline. Jennifer lost the point. Thanks to our pro ump John Bouza (who also sat in the chair for a John McEnroe vs. Jimmy Connors exhibition match in Ottawa 30 years ago), Dave Baker and manager Chris who ran our Facebook Live, our tournament director Phil English and his committee, and the members who came out to cheer six feet apart. You can catch the full match here on our Facebook page! See more
Join us live on FB at 4 p.m. for the women's singles finals! It's Sandra Ng taking on defending champ Jennifer Munn! Our consolation finals will also be happening at the club at 4 p.m., with Natalie Montgomery and Paula Dunn vying for the title.
What a wonderful opportunity for these players, and thanks to RLTC's Coach Z and all the volunteers for making this happen! We were delighted to be one of the club hosts. Congratulations to all the participants.
In a battle of the teens, Connor Douglas won our men's A Division consolation finals! Congrats to Connor and finalist Ramin Akhavan! It was a very close match, and fun to watch these young guys play! They are so skilled! It was also great to see their grandparents, parents, siblings, friends and neighbours out cheering! All RLTC members, too. It truly is a wonderful community!... #tournament #singles #finals #sundayvibes #sunnydays #clublife #community #tennisfamily #tennisfriends #RLTC
Went to a tiebreaker in our men"s singles Division B consolation final! In the end, Richard Martineau prevailed against David Goldfield. Congratulations to both! A great match to end our men's singles tournament! With 51 participants, that might have been a record! ... #tournamentseason #RLTC #Ottawasports #sundayvibes
