Actors/Volunteers Needed The Rossland Museum & Discovery Centre is looking for volunteers for their Boo Town Halloween which will run on October 31st, from 12-4:30, and will focus on Rossland's characters (and some fictitious ones as well) during the boomtown era. They are hoping to do a haunted walk through of the museum where there would be a bunch of stations and at each station they will need an actor to play out a little scene/ monologue. With the Rossland Light Opera Players off to a roaring start after Pirates of Penzance, it’s time to jump head-first into 1953 and our next show: The Mikado... 67 cast members! 14 piece orchestra! AND IT WAS ANOTHER HIT! This huge undertaking borrowed help and supplies from Summerland and Nelson’s @capitolnelsonbc theatre and performed in Rossland, Trail, Nelson and Grand Forks. The RLOP had quite the tours back in the good ol days hey?! A love story even emerged that theatrical year in Rossland: Director, Margery Hall recalls the infatuation between romantic lead Nanki- Poo (AKA Art Lewis) and scene designer, Barbara Wilson. Time to look back... 69 years to our very first show: The Pirates of Penzance by W.S. Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan That’s right, I said 69 Y E A R S !! #whoa ... In 1952, the Rossland Light Opera Players performed twice in the Rossland High School auditorium and went on also to play in the Trail Junior High (which is now the @charlesbaileytheatre ) and in the @capitolnelsonbc theatre. Audiences were plentiful and captivating thus thrusting this community theatre company into a future full of support and success!!! One hilarious tid bit from the RLOP’s Pirates nearly 70 years ago, tells of one of the ever-so-troublesome theatre practical jokes: in rehearsals, the pirate mugs always had Coca Cola in them to wet the throat and the little hit of sugar probably didn’t hurt their stamina either! On opening night however, the Pirate King, Stan Fisher, grabbed a pirate mug, took a sip just like in rehearsal, but instead of coke, this time it was straight rum!!!
