Later is a lie. "Later" is a lie we tell ourselves to feel better. ... "Later" is stated out of fear, never necessity. "Later" actually means "never" in regard to reaching fitness goals. It temporarily lets us off the hook without admitting we're giving up our dreams. We can EASILY convince ourselves that timing, circumstances, and the demands of daily life are legitimate excuses. But they aren't. Ever. Life is chaotic and busy. It seems like too much too often -- like you just can't start or focus or grow in the right direction. Fear, uncertainty, and self-doubt weigh us down, so we turn - again and again - to "later." Which becomes "never." Enough! Break the cycle with these two insights. 1. Realize that you are NOT unique. Neither are your problems or circumstances or feelings. Millions and millions of other people have navigated what you're going through. If they can do it, so can you. 2. You are personally responsible for where you are now and where you will be in 90 days and for the rest of your life. Stop saying later - and seize the moment to take one little step toward doing what you need to do. Do it right now. And do it again tomorrow. And every day. Life is too short for "later." It ain't all sunshine - and that's OK Do you sometimes feel like you always have to have a smile on your face despite how you're really feeling on the inside? Many of us do.... We're asked how we're feeling and feel pressure to say we're doing great when at times we really aren't. See, the problem isn't that we feel bad sometimes. The problem comes when we say we "shouldn't" feel bad ever - even when we really should. Somehow, we've been taught to expect that everything should go our way all the time. Like any expectation, it just sets us up for disappointments rather than accepting that life's a mixed bag for everybody. Or maybe we don't want to seem like we're complaining or feeling sorry for ourselves, so we put on a good face but feel like a phony inside. When you feel an unwanted emotion, you don't have to be scared of it or try to force yourself to feel better. You could just say, "Hmm... I'm feeling anxious. (Or blue, or annoyed...) OK. I see." It'll probably pass on its own, like the image of a balloon floating across a movie screen. I say allow yourself to feel it, let it wash over you, (and yes it's okay to cry), but don't live there. Accept that it's all part of being human. It's all part of life. And it always helps to reach out to someone who will listen with care and compassion. Are you feeling anxious? I wanted to talk about a sadly prevalent topic in the world today - anxiety - and help you understand the cause. I'm not a doctor, therapist or psychologist, but I do think I've got some valuable insight to share.... You see, depression and anxiety are similar but entirely different at the same time. Depression often occurs with feelings of hopelessness, but it's based on past experiences. Anxiety, on the other hand, is rooted in fear of what's to come in the future. It's no wonder that anxiety is through the roof during a global pandemic, as we have less certainty than we are used to having. If you really dig deep, you can begin to work through your anxiety by managing your thoughts. When you feel anxious, notice the thought running through your head. It's your thoughts that give you certain feelings, for better or worse. And you can bring consciousness to the thoughts that lead you to experience negative emotions and actually begin to change those thoughts, which in turn totally changes how you feel. It's pretty amazing! So, if you're feeling anxious and the thought around it is how you're going to figure out homeschooling your kids and managing work during a pandemic, you can change that thought to something that serves you like.... I've come this far in life, and even though it doesn't seem like it now this could be an opportunity for growth and clarity. Same situation, but you're attributing different thoughts.
