Save your empties from the holiday season! #CobourgRotary is hosting a Bottle Drive Fundraiser on Saturday, January 9th from 11am - 2pm in the parking lot at Donegan Park on D’Arcy Street. Please bring your clean and sorted wine and liquor bottles, as well as beer cans, in boxes or bags, to the Donegan Park parking lot. We’re having a one-day collection as a fundraiser in support of our many on-going projects in the community supporting Special Needs, Literacy, Community Proj...ects and Events, The Giving Tree, as well as Youth programs such as Air Cadets, Camp Enterprise, International Youth Exchange, and Interact not to mention our continued efforts to wipe out Polio internationally. These and many more projects supported financially and with the sweat equity of our Rotary Club Volunteers, are why we continue to raise and distribute funds back into our community. The Rotary Club of Cobourg thanks you in advance for your support. But remember, safety first for you and our volunteers please, wear a mask and when you arrive stay in your car and our volunteers will come to you. We are following the Covid Situation closely and will adjust events accordingly. We are also providing pre-Christmas service for pickup or drop off. Please contact [email protected]. See you there! #cobourgontario #cobourg #supportyourcommunity #rotarybottledrive Town of Cobourg, Ontario

Orange Shirt Day opens the door to global conversation on all aspects of Indigenous Residential Schools. It is an opportunity to create meaningful discussion about the effects of Residential Schools and the legacy they have left behind. A discussion all Canadians can tune into and create bridges with each other for reconciliation. A day for survivors to be reaffirmed that they matter, and so do those that have been affected. Every Child Matters, even if they are an adult, from now on. www.orangeshirtday.org

Here is this week's message from our District 7070 Governor Beth Selby to all of our Rotary family, Here is a message from the District 7070 Membership Team: Co...ngratulations District 7070 Clubs on your ability to meet during this challenging time! A check-in with Clubs has shown that the majority of us are meeting in some virtual capacity. Great job! Now you need to check that none of your members are getting left behind. If you haven’t already, check to see who is attending your meetings and who is not. Follow up with those who are missing we suggest a phone call, have a chat. Find out why they are not attending (gently). Perhaps someone in the Club can help connect them to the meetings. Or perhaps they will be happy just to hear a voice from their Club. Continue to follow up with these members every 2 weeks or so and any others you do not see very often. If your Club is not meeting, please reach out to Virginia O’Reilly ([email protected]) and we’d be happy to help figure out a way for you to meet. Connecting is always important for Rotarians, but even more so at this time. Thank you. Stay well and stay safe! Virginia O'Reilly More from Beth: This week, the Toronto Eglinton Club’s speaker is the Hon. Bob Rae. Visit the club website for information and registration. On this day, April 12th, 1955, international headlines read Victory over Polio. The vaccine, developed by Jonas Salk and his team at the University of Pittsburgh, was declared safe & effective after the largest medical field trial in history. 60 years later, the triumphs of this vaccine are still helping millions of people worldwide. Let's continue to fight for global polio eradication www.endpolio.org
