75% of kids cannot have their extra-curriculars taken away from them.... We can still meet online and dance... let's give them their outlets back.

Our dance company was renting a commercial dance school space and location in March 2020 pre-Covid. And then, when we went to sign up for renting the same place in August, but they raised their fees because they had to pay more staff to be on site to ensure renters were following covid protocols. With no students officially enrolled in August (before we opened up registration for classes), we didn't want to take that risk. So we started to just operate from our home-based st...udio location. I just finished doing a survey for the Dance Safe Canada Economic Status.... and this is what I found: We lost 75% of our students due to covid-19 and 87% loss of revenue. I just thought I'd give you all some perspective from the side of a niche dance studio. It's been hard to swallow. BUT HERE'S SOMETHING IMPORTANT YOU NEED TO KNOW: it's not just about us. it's not just about revenue. IT'S ABOUT THE KIDS..... Even though dance isn't the most ideal when we're doing it through ZOOM,... BUT WE'RE STILL DANCING. We're still moving our bodies. KIDS ARE MASSIVELY NEGATIVELY IMPACTED RIGHT NOW due to severe lockdowns in terms of school and extracurriculars. THEY NEED US TO PROVIDE THEM opportunities to move their bodies, spirt and mind. If you have been a student at SAAM before or had a child enrolled with us in March 2020, please consider joining our online classes for January. I did a Trauma informed training this past weekend: if you don't think Covid has been a little trauma inducing, I'd ask you to think again. The minds of children are so important to strengthen. Let's give them this outlet back.
