#ElderAbuse cases are often complex w/ medical needs, living situations, & family dynamics requiring support of many partner agencies. We coordinated wraparound services for 88 seniors last year, offering #safety, #security, & wellbeing to those impacted by abuse. #WhereToTurn
If you're a parent or educator, it's not hard to see the impacts of #bullying on children. #Bullying is #abuse. This type of #trauma can result in anxiety, depression, poor learning outcomes, suicidal ideation, addictions, criminality. Tackling bullying in schools is critical.
We helped over 450 families last year. Through #counselling, #education, & #advocacy we meet our families without judgement & support the decisions they want to make for their own lives. Often, that's not about leaving but #coping, #healing, or building #safety. #WhereToTurn
Snapshot of #bullying in #Canada's schools. Talk to a child or teen today & they have either been bullied, are being bullied, are seeing bullying on a regular basis, or doing the bullying. Bullying may be common but it's not ok. The consequences can be fatal in extreme cases.
Tomorrow evening we'll be joining the #Road2ResilienceConference panel, talking about how to recognize the signs of abuse, what to do, & how to help. It will be hosted on zoom and you can still register here: https://forms.gle/vzwKToVxQW155yZS6 #WhereToTurn #Alberta #GoPurpleAB
Not sure what to do when you encounter #bullying? We've got some techniques you can use to attempt to deal with a bully: https://www.stopabuse.ca//tips-and-strategies-for-managing or when you're gaming online: https://www.stopabuse.ca/post/november-s-ask-an-expert
Next week, we focus our attention on #bullying as it's #BullyingAwarenessWeek. We'll be providing stats on bullying - not just for young people, but also in the workplace. The trauma from bullying can affect a whole lot more than our school experience. #WhereToTurn #GoPurpleAB
A lot of us see #bullying or experience it and learn a lot of #unhealthy behaviours from it that we then take into our relationships with others. This is carrying on #abuse & it's not good for us or the people we care about.
When we look at the growing population of our seniors in #Alberta (our own gray tsunami) we also know that #elderabuse will rise as well, particularly in the rural areas where there are fewer supports than in the big cities. It already is on the rise, based on our caseloads.
#Cyberbullying is a form of #DigitalAbuse. It's when someone uses the internet or texting to intimidate, put-down, spread rumours, or make fun of someone. We often experience it thru our use of social media or gaming. This week's blog talks about bullies & gaming https://www.stopabuse.ca/post/november-s-ask-an-expert
