This is a testament to the hard work of the incredible frontline agencies in Saint John! Achieving a 10% reduction in a matter of months demonstrates that we can make a significant impactand that eliminating chronic homelessness altogether is an attainable goal.
This morning we released our annual Child Poverty Report Card in partnership with Campaign 2000. 1 in 5 New Brunswick children were living in poverty prior to the pandemic. While this report uses data from 2018 (the most recent year with data available) it also draws attention to potential impacts of COVID-19 on low income children. The numbers show that the pre-pandemic normal was not great for many New Brunswick children.... You can read the full report on our website: https://sjhdc.ca/poverty-reduction/

A timely opinion: "We need to fix the holes in our social safety net now, providing housing for the homeless, and the dignity of a basic income for people living in poverty."
Monday is your last chance to VOTE. For those of you voting in either Saint John's Harbour or Portland-Simonds, check out the candidate interviews Randy conducted last week. "When we vote, we take back our power to choose, to speak up, and to stand with those who support us and each other."~ Loung Ung https://www.youtube.com/ch/UCLdvWxcJLZpYpotB1lwRxaw/videos
