A great way to learn how to run faster is to be chased - or to do the chasing. After an hour of Capture the Flag the kids are exhausted, excited, happy and can be heard strategizing for next time. On more than one occasion we have heard them say 'I love capture the flag."... Parents are excited to see them out of the house and off the couch and relieving stress and boredom through play. It's an easy game to learn. But for a sports program like ours there is a lot to love about CTF. We love the variability of movement and intensity. Sometimes you are sprinting, then juking, spinning, deking and hiding. There is no better way to train coordination, agility and balance than forcing kids in to unpredictable movements at a high pace with an external focus. We love the teamwork and communication skills it teaches. CTF is as much strategy as it is speed. And the strategy changes as the game evolves over time. Kids are talking, thinking, communicating, collaborating. Success and failure each teach them about the next move. ______________ This is the way kids need to play. Now more than ever. _____________ We are hosting more CTF events all Fall. Come join us! COACHES Interested in us putting together a CTF team bonding event for your team? "I just played." At a recent conference on play, Olympic Gold Medalist in Short Track, Apolo Ohno was asked how he got started in sports and his answer: "I just started playing." He played baseball with friends. Basketball. Rode his bike. ... Was introduced to competitive swimming at early age and hated the structure of training, so he left. He didn't start training full time in short track until age 14 and one year later was youngest US National Champion. He started by playing. Not by training. Kids don't need to train before high school. Let them play. Looking for something to do this Fall? Come join our Capture the Flag events. It's 90 minutes of pure play. Athletic. Strategic. Teamwork. Fun. #ltad #playsandlot

First week of CTF was a blast. 90 minutes of running, deking, sneaking, hiding, teamwork, strategy and exhaustion! We found an area near the diamond that offers a perfect spot for CTF. Lots of trees and hills for natural boundaries with an open space as well. ... Teams can create multiple strategies for offense and defense. The mashup of ages is part of our philosophy for engaging kids and offering them a chance to combine physical development with emotional development. In the second photo you have 5 year old Beau protecting his flag against much older kids. The older kids have to learn how to lead a younger teammate and Beau is challenged to keep up. As Easton and I walked off the field we starting planning together a future NERF gun event at this same spot. This is how youth sports needs to be build. From the kids perspective about the games they want to play. Want to play in our next CTF? Ask about how you can join the game next Saturday. #ctf #ltad

Do you have what it takes to Capture the Flag? Want to get your kids out of the house and running around for an hour or more? In this time of uncertainty and stress, kids need play more than ever. Facilities are shut down or heavily restricted. Sports cancelled or significantly curtailed. Our mission will always be to create play. It is not a baseball mission. It's a kid mission. A development mission. ... For October and as long weather allows and kids want to play, we will be hosting CTF games at our field. Groups will be small. You can create your own custom group if you wish. We are offering unlimited play for one low price. Once you register, you can come as often as you like.
