I love this work!! Back in January, I had presented to school counselors about trauma and resilience. One counselor stayed afterwards to ask for some guidance a...bout one of her clients who was selectively mute. The teachers and administrators were frustrated and insisting on using behavioral strategies (punishment and reward) to get the student to speak. I shared that the student’s silence was most likely a trauma response and by creating genuine safety and connection, the student would be able to process the trauma and engage. Well, fast forward to today when I was doing follow up training at the same district. The counselor shared that she implemented my suggestion and helped the teachers and administrators see through a trauma-sensitive lens. This student not only started talking but she asked to make the school-wide announcements. She found her voice! I’m going to say with renewed vigor, Prioritizing safety and connection is a prerequisite for healing. #lumostransforms #theresiliencetoolkit #givelight See more

Our first official cohort in The Resilience Toolkit Facilitator Certification Program!! Folks from Central and Eastern Canada, and Oregon, New Mexico, and Calif...ornia finally meeting in person after working together virtually for the last month. This group brings so many diverse perspectives together - nursing, social work, education, mental health, law, criminal justice, violence prevention, physical therapy, yoga, somatic body work, even engineering! We asked hard questions about what does building individual and community resilience really look like when we consider the social and environmental landscape. We had long discussions about how to implement trauma-informed principles in our work together and with our clients. And of course we ate and laughed together. Now they are moving into the clinical portion of their training. We are all excited to see how the learning integrates and our sharing deepens our understanding. Beyond grateful! . . . #theresiliencetoolkit #teachertraining See more
