Invitation - Mary Oliver Oh do you have time to linger... for just a little while out of your busy and very important day for the goldfinches that have gathered in a field of thistles for a musical battle, to see who can sing the highest note, or the lowest, or the most expressive of mirth, or the most tender? Their strong, blunt beaks drink the air as they strive melodiously not for your sake and not for mine and not for the sake of winning but for sheer delight and gratitude believe us, they say, it is a serious thing just to be alive on this fresh morning in the broken world. I beg of you, do not walk by without pausing to attend to this rather ridiculous performance. It could mean something. It could mean everything. It could be what Rilke meant, when he wrote: You must change your life.

The peculiar evil of silencing the expression of an opinion is, that it is robbing the human race; posterity as well as the existing generation; those who dissent from the opinion, still more than those who hold it. If the opinion is right, they are deprived of the opportunity of exchanging error for truth: if wrong, they lose, what is almost as great a benefit, the clearer perception and livelier impression of truth, produced by its collision with error. - John Stuart Mill

Garlic, a plant in the Allium family, is closely related to onions, shallots and leeks. Not only is garlic employed in delicious cuisine around the world, but it is also revered for being highly nutritious and possessing numerous health and medicinal properties. Allicin is an active compound in garlic that has potent antimicrobial properties.... To activate allicin the garlic has to be chewed (raw), crushed or sliced. If you cook garlic right away you significantly lower allicin content. To receive more of the health benefits of garlic simply crush, chop or mince garlic and keep it away from heat for 10 minutes. During this time the maximum allicin is created and stays intact during cooking. What’s your favourite way to enjoy garlic? #holisticnutrition #garlic #allium #functionalfoods #holistichealth #naturalhealth #cuisine #cooking #healthtip #cookingtip #nutrition #lifestylemedicine #farmers #regenerativefarming #garlicharvest #csabox #foodasmedicine

Root to Rise: Virtual Sessions A gathering of community. A container where you can simply receive.... A balm for the soul. A virtual touchstone. May’s Topic: Finding Our Touchstone: Growing Deep Roots In uncertain times our nervous system is activated, assessing the landscape for danger and seeking sure footing. But what do we do when there are no clear answers, when we are guarding against an invisible enemy, when our connections to the familiar dissipates and we become untethered by change, loss, uncertainty? How do we navigate new terrain while keeping ourselves healthy, grounded and clear-minded? How do we continue to move forward and create life anew? Perhaps, we find that stillness and turn within. Engage with practices that return us to our center and our inner guidance. We soothe and nourish our nervous system so that we may embrace the breadth of our feelings and allow emotions to rise and fall. We grow deep roots and a solid core so that when the winds of change come, we can bend but not break. We invite you to brew a tea, light a candle and join Jada MacLeod+ Sara Dubeau for monthly Root to Rise Virtual Sessions. Wednesday, May 20th, 8 pm - 9:30 pm Pay what you can, purchase a ticket here: https://root-to-rise-virtual-sessions.eventbrite.com (Share this with someone you know who you think would benefit from this event)

Supporting your wellness is repetitive and very rarely, Insta worthy. If you observe those who prioritize their health you’ll notice they do the same basic things on repeat. And as they acquire new knowledge, they incrementally integrate it into their routine. Step, by step, by step. ... Small, almost imperceptible upgrades. They don’t promote magic bullets or a one pill, food group, herbal remedy, essential oil or shot for one ill. They talk about having a holistic integrative approach which includes, tools, consistent habits and lifestyle. Building resilience is about choosing to invest in your basic wellness pillars over and tools, over, and over. It’s about building a solid foundation. It begins with a single smoothie and remembering to take your supplements, and evolves into how you nourish yourself daily. It begins with choosing to move and ground into your body, and becomes strength and embodiment. It begins with pausing and taking a deep breath, and develops into a centering breathwork practice. It begins with choosing to get to bed early, and becomes restorative sleep each night. It begins as walk in nature, and develops into reverence for all the ways we are connected and supported by Mother Earth. It begins with allowing ourselves to feel the wave of an emotion and over time, develops our capacity to navigate difficulty and embrace the beauty and joy in life. It begins with choosing to give a simple, natural solution a try, and turns into reclaiming your health autonomy one choice at a time. Don’t discount each seemingly insignificant step. As James Clear reminds us, improving our habits by 1 percent isn’t particularly notablesometimes it isn’t even noticeablebut it can be far more meaningful, especially in the long run. Start with one thing. Do it again. And then, again. That’s how you build your health- one unflashy step at a time. What is your one small step right now?
