Seratauga Family Naturopathic: Dr. Sarah Connors, ND & Birth Doula 07.05.2022

Hard to believe we’re just weeks away from the official release of Body Bliss. As I’ve mentioned before, I’ve wanted to be an author for a very long time. However, it seemed like it would be on the ‘some day’ bucket list for a really long time. Now that it is here, and it is happening it almost feels unreal. This collection of stories about body positivity is sure to make an impact for anyone who has struggled with loving their body. Ready to grab your copy? Keep an eye out for details here when the book drops June 8th. #soontobepublishedauthor #bodybliss #bodypositivity

I know it’s been a little while since I talked about this but we are getting so close to the finish line now. Almost a year ago I decided to finally jump in and become a published author. This has been a dream of mine for a long time. Being a huge bookworm my whole life, finding a project that meant something to me was very important. That’s why I chose to be a part of Body Bliss. Having my own struggles and journey to body acceptance, I wanted to reach out and help others know they are not alone and they can find their way to having a better relationship with their body. Curious about the book? DM me or email me and I will happily add you to the mailing list. #bodyacceptance #bodypositivity #loveyourself

Have you been told you’re ‘pre-diabetic’ or ‘we need to watch your blood sugar levels’? Even if you have already been ‘dealing with diabetes’ for awhile this doesn’t mean that it’s a set in stone life sentence you can’t do anything about. You can always choose to improve your health. There are so many factors that can impact blood sugar balance: - Dietary habits - Exercise (for most of us it’s not enough that’s the issue)... - Stress and stress management - Sleep - Hormones If you’re struggling with figuring out this puzzle on your own and you want to find more natural solutions please don’t hesitate to PM me! I’m here to help.

Talk about a superfood. Turmeric is a spice from India and contains an amazing anti-inflammatory, antioxidant compound called curcumin. Curcumin accounts for about 3-7% of the weight of turmeric. Curcumin has been studied for a wide variety of medical conditions and shows a lot of promise in the management of many conditions. It has been studied for arthritis, IBS, endometriosis, concussions and other head injuries, liver disease, heart disease and many others. It is worth ...noting that the studies use a supplemental form of curcumin and not the actual herb. Curcumin is an anti-inflammatory compound and fights inflammation at the molecular level. Some studies even show it can work as well as some anti-inflammatory and pain medications, but without the side effects. Curcumin is also a powerful antioxidant. It can neutralize free radicals before they wreak havoc on our detoxification pathways. Who here is already taking turmeric and how are you liking it? Let me know in the comments below.

Do you find you often suffer from PTC? PTC or Post Turkey Coma is usually what we think about happening just after our big turkey dinners on Thanksgiving. In my experience, this actually extends from Thanksgiving until the end of the year. What I mean is, we often put our health 'on hold' as a priority until the New Year. That's almost a whole 1/4 of the year where we don't do something positive for our health! Don't let that be you this year. Get back on track BEFORE Jan 1st rolls around. Looking for a way to do that in a short amount of time? Ask me about my 7 Day Detox Program that will be closing on Friday Oct 16th.

How we think of ourselves is always going to be the most important thing. There’s the old saying, If you think you can you can; if you think you can’t, then you can’t. The same applies to how we view our body, and whether WE think we are beautiful. How do you choose to see your body?

Stress management is one of the most common components of my health plans with patients. Stress plays a HUGE role in your overall health, from your ability to regulate blood sugars, to controlling inflammation, to how well your body responds to our recommendations. And stress is not always negative, it can also come in the form of busyness or positive stress. When you add all the stressors together it can be overwhelming for your body.... One of the techniques that I use frequently in my office is to have people list the areas in their life they perceive as stressful or busy. Then we go through that list and see what can be modified, let go of, or reduced. This helps hit the reset button for what you perceive as stressful. I often use this technique alongside other stress management tools or supplements to further decrease the stress response. If you think stress is a reason why your health is not where it should be send me a message and we can start building a plan to help YOU overcome your stress right away.

Are you struggling with feeling ‘alert’ or ‘focused’? If so, using things such as Rosemary can be helpful, but if it’s more than just once in awhile this may not be enough. Want to work on your brain power? Send me a PM

More and more children are suffering with allergic type conditions: eczema, seasonal allergies, asthma, etc. All of which stem from an overactive response from the immune system. We can actually help reduce the likelihood of this developing by allowing our kids to get a ‘healthy dose of dirt’ from the time they’re young. Studies show kids who grow up on farms or have a family pet have less issues with allergies. Let them play outside and get a little dirty, it’s actually great for their health!

There is a lot of talk about prebiotics these days as if it is a new discovery, but really all we’re talking about is FIBER. Many fruits, vegetables and legumes are rich in fiber which is what the ‘good bacteria’ in your gut need to grow and proliferate. Most of us do not consume anywhere near the amount of fiber we should be getting to support your health. Of course you can add a prebiotic supplement to your regimen if needed, but you should also be adding MORE FIBER to your diet. How can you add a little more fiber to your life today? Let me know in the comments below.

Nettle is in my opinion a bit of an unsung hero of an herb. There are many uses for this awesome plant that’s often treated like a weed. It’s mainly known for its use for men’s health, especially prostate health. However, it’s also very nutritive, helping to add iron, potassium, Vitamin A and C, in addition to some other trace nutrients. An additional benefit of being anti-inflammatory and an anti-histamine is that it can help with allergies as well. One of my favourite combinations is nettle and oatstraw to deal with seasonal allergies, and the oatstraw has a calming effect for the nervous system as well. If you use nettle, how are you using it in your life? Let me know in the comments below.

We often don’t recognize how much impact our self- talk has on us. The things we tell ourselves all the time, ultimately make up who we are/who we think we are. We women tend to tell ourselves some of the most negative, self-destructive things that we would NEVER say to another person or friend. If you struggle with thinking of positive things to tell yourself, try re-framing it as something you would say to a friend and then say that to yourself on repeat until it feels more real and natural. What’s one negative thought you could re-frame as a positive today? Give it a try, and let me know how it goes in the comments.

Way too many women think it’s normal to suffer through their period. I am here to tell you that cramps that have you bent over and crying, irregular cycles, overly long cycles, headaches, significant mood shifts, all of these are NOT part of a ‘normal ’ healthy period. If you’re tired of suffering every month, please DM me. There is a much better way, and I am here to help.

Did you know that tight muscles/trigger points can contribute to headaches, difficulty sleeping and various other issues? They may seem unrelated, but in reality they are related. If you are unsure if this might be part of your problem, send me a PM. I can assess your muscles and let you know if massage, acupuncture or other body work may be a good fit for you.
