This is some great advice on introducing masks to children from Lansdowne Childrens centre in Brantford. The recommendation for us to all stay safe is to wear a mask while out in the community. Seeing other people wearing masks can be scary for many children. This will be something that caregivers can practice with them on home by showing them how they can wear they’re masks for short periods of time (possibly even starting with only a few seconds so not to startle them), ...but that they also come back off and all remains the same underneath. Similarly, see if you can start to have your children wear a mask for short periods of time- again just a few seconds is success to start- so they can begin to get used to the feeling. Practicing this a few times every day for short periods will allow children to build their tolerance to masks. If possible you could also look into buying a mask with your child’s favorite cartoon character on it.

An update for everyone on the COVID 19 situation. At this time the clinic will still be closed. Yesterday the government released information that speech language pathologists may return to work pending the licensing body’s approval. At this time my licensing body is strongly suggesting that face to face contact for therapy not be started. If it is started then all COVID measures must be in effect including social distancing and the use of PPEs. I will keep everyone updated as I learn more over the next few weeks. I miss you all greatly but all of our health is my primary concern. Together we will all get through this and I can’t wait to play with you all again once it is safe.

The therapy room is still closed for all of my friends to come but Pete and his friends are having a lot of fun!
