After yesterday's announcement, we share in the disappointment of the many athletes who have trained hard and were looking forward to qualifying for and competing in the Lloydminster Saskatchewan Summer Games 2020; the coaches, managers and mission staff who were looking forward to supporting young athletes and their District Teams; and the Lloydminster community, who was looking forward to welcoming the entire province into their backyard. To protect the health and safety of the athletes, volunteers, spectators, and event staff, the Saskatchewan Games Council, the City of Lloydminster, and the Lloydminster 2020 Host Society jointly announce the cancellation of the Lloydminster Saskatchewan Summer Games 2020. The City of Lloydminster will receive first right of refusal to host in 2024. The Saskatchewan Games Council sends sincere gratitude to the Host Society, led by Games Manager Nicole Clow, Chair Kevin Kusch,... and Vice Chair Cindy Rekimowich for their hard work and dedication towards bringing the Games to Lloydminster. Saskatchewan Games 21.11.2020

The Saskatchewan Games Council is saddened to learn of the passing of Fred Sasakamoose, Elder and the first-ever Indigenous Canadian hockey player in the NHL. Sasakamoose was an inductee of the Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame as well as a recipient of the Order of Canada. He spent his post-hockey years promoting and developing sport opportunities for young Indigenous athletes as well as spreading his message of inspiration across Canada. We send our condolences to his family and loved ones.

September 19th-27th marks National Coaches Week! Every edition of the #SaskatchewanGames sees hundreds of individuals from across the province volunteer as District Team coaches and managers. Some are dedicated community or club coaches; some are former athletes who have decided to give back to their sport; others are parents or guardians of athletes who have become involved in coaching to take part in their family's passion. The Saskatchewan Games Council is proud to announce the core leadership team who will steer the planning and delivery of the 2022 Saskatchewan Winter Games in Regina: Leading the volunteer host society as Chair is Regina's Valerie Sluth, founder and CEO of Praxis Consulting. Crystal Longman of George Gordon First Nation will serve as Vice Chair of Athlete Experience and Inclusion, with Dawn Kobayashi of Regina coming onboard as Vice Chair of Operations and Project Management.... This summer, Sluth, Longman, and Kobayashi will be recruiting individuals to head up various key functional areas, with a focus on providing mentorship opportunities to diverse up-and-coming leaders in #YQR.
