Rally Against Ontario Attack on Nature Tues. Dec. 8, 8:30 - 9:30 a.m. EST Ontario Legislative Building (University and College, Toronto) Emergency rally against bill 229 cuts to Conservation Authorities and endangered species. We must speak up against the Ford government's favouring of short-sighted profit-seeking land-grabs for big developers and industry over protecting public health and people's access to local nature.

An Open Letter to Ontario’s Members of Provincial Parliament Tens of thousands of Ontarians - including 40 municipal councils - have requested that the Ford gov't remove Schedule 6 from Bill 229 which aims to neuter the province's 36 Conservation Authorities, prioritizing developers over the environment. https://cela.ca///12/CELA-Open-Letter-to-MPPs-Dec-2020.pdf

Ontario government’s proposed amendments to Bill 229, Schedule 6 are a shocking escalation of attacks on public safety, natural values and safe drinking water. The Ontario government will today bring forward amendments to its proposed legislation that attacks Conservation Authorities, which will allow the provincial government to order dangerous development projects to proceed against the science-based decisions of Conservation Authorities in a manner that threatens public safety and environmental values all across the province.

This MZO is part of other attempts to override local planning, but also ties in with the Ford government’s continued push to diminish the role conservation authorities have in Ontario.

We, the 96 undersigned organizations, are strongly opposed to the use of Ministerial Zoning Orders(MZOs) to over-ride policy protections for Provincially Significant Wetlands (PSWs) in Ontario. We ask that you revoke two recently issued MZOs that will lead to the destruction of PSWs in the cities of Vaughan and Pickering, and that you refrain from using MZOs for this purpose in the future.

Stop the war on Ontario’s wetlands! Send an email to your MPP, Doug Ford and other provincial politicians here.
