From our pristine waters here in Canada, to tables as far away as China, we are specialized in delivering only the best quality of products.
Sea Cucumber is a Chinese delicacy that is prepared during very special occasions, such as the Chinese New Year. With the New Year approaching, many families will be preparing this traditional dish to celebrate the Spring Festival. #seacucumbercanada Image by harvester Thomas Gould
Making a living with your hands, while travelling all over the coastline of British Columbia is a dream career. For many, this is a family business, and a way of life that they enter into when they are young, and continue into the later years of their life. Sustainable fishing practices ensure a healthy ecosystem, while also supporting those that rely on this industry. Image by harvester Thomas Gould #seacucumbercanada #pscha #proudtofishbc
Albinism is an inherited condition caused by a deficient gene. It is characterized by a lack of pigment that normally gives colour to the skin.Harvesting from wild populations of sea cucumbers, ensures that we are allowing the natural course of nature and genetic diversity to take it course. PSCHA is a non-profit society, incorporated in 1992 by the 85 commercial licence holders. It does not buy or sell sea cucumbers but represents the licence holders and fishermen in most matters related to a safe and well managed fishery. PSCHA works closely with the Department of Fisheries (DFO) management and science departments, a third party monitoring company and First Nations to insure we have a safe, sustainable and science based fishery. Sea cucumber can be eaten raw, fried, and pickled, but it's most often added to dishes dried where it will then rehydrate and take on the flavours of foods and seasonings it is cooked with. This is why it is often used in soups, stir-fries, and certain braised dishes; it is also combined with other seafood, meats, and spices, as well as typical Chinese ingredients like winter melon, cabbage, and mushrooms.
Sea cucumbers are a marine invertebrate fished here in the Pacific Northwest. They are commonly used in traditional Chinese medicine to treat many common ailments including fatigue and joint pain. It is also a rich source of mucopolysaccharides, especially chondroitin sulfate, commonly used for arthritis. Sea cucumbers are not only packed with protein, vitamins, and minerals but also contain several substances that may benefit overall health. This has led to increasing worldwide demand for sea cucumbers, which elevates the risk of exploitation in countries that are not properly regulated. These species play an important role in the ecosystem of ocean reefs and therefore to ensure sea cucumber populations remain at healthy levels, make sure to choose those that fished using sustainable methods, like we do here in British Columbia’s waters. #seacucumbercanada #pscha #oceanwise
