HARTSFIELD-JACKSON: THE WORLD'S BUSIEST AIRPORT IN 2019 International airports all over the world are the busiest places that one can ever find. However, the one in Atlanta, Georgia, USA, beats them all. For the 21st year in a row, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport has been crowned the busiest in the world on Airports Council International's preliminary world traffic ranking. Over 111 million passengers flew through it 2019. HartsfieldJackson Atlanta Intern...ational Airport has terminal and concourse space totaling 6.8 million square feet (630,000 m2). In addition, there are two terminals(the Domestic Terminal and the Maynard H. Jackson Jr. International Terminal,) where passengers check in and claim bags. Atlanta has five runways, all parallel, aligned eastwest. 8L/26R and 8R/26L are north of the terminal area and 9L/27R, 9R/27L, and 10/28 are south of it. Runways 8R/26L and 9L/27R are used for departures: as they're the closest to the mid-field terminals, this reduces the amount of fuel needed to taxi to the runway. Runway 10/28 is assigned to either arrivals or departures, depending on what airfield operations has prioritized. The airport has international service within North America and to South America, Central America, Europe, Africa, and Asia. Many of the nearly one million annual flights are domestic flights. The airport is a major hub for travel in the southeastern region of the country. Atlanta has been the world's busiest airport by passenger traffic since 1998. HartsfieldJackson is the primary hub of Delta Air Lines, and is a focus city for low-cost carriers, namely, the Frontier Airlines and Southwest Airlines. With just over 1,000 flights a day to 225 domestic and international destinations, the Delta hub is the world's largest airline hub. In addition to hosting Delta's corporate headquarters, HartsfieldJackson is also the home of Delta's Technical Operations Center, which is the airline's primary maintenance, repair and overhaul arm. Finally, Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport in 2016 reached a record $1 billion in sales at restaurants, shops, car rentals and other concessions. The roughly 170 restaurants at the world's busiest airport are big business. Enjoy a delicious meal of suchi and a huge cocktail at the prestigious One Flew South Restaurant.

BIG QUESTION: IS THERE A CITY IN THE SKY? There are thousands upon thousands of flights in the world, so much so that every moment, there are a million people that are airborne, flying to one destination or the other! Now this number-a million-plus passengers travelling with luggage and baggage-equals to the population of a whole city....yes, only that this time it is 'a city in the sky!' This is not your ordinary city, static and located in one country: it spans not just cou...ntries but whole continents! What a city! 'City in the Sky' a reference to the fact that at any one time, there are one million people aloft is a fascinating look at every imaginable facet of aviation. It is a series of three episodes by PBS. It takes viewers behind the scenes of commercial air travel today, from how your baggage actually moves onto the plane, how the big jets were assembled in the first place, to air traffic control around the world. This series is an excellent primer for all things travel and features excellent production values. Just sit in the jump seat for the takeoff of Lufthansa A380 and you’ll be hooked. Available on Netflix. Enjoy the weekend in the flying city! #cityinthesky #aviationfilm #aviationmovie #saturdaynightmovie See more

DESPITE THE PANDEMIC, THE WORLD STILL NEEDS MORE PILOTS! COVID-19 has hit the aviation industry and airlines hard. For once, even some of the most experienced and celebrated pilots have been rendered jobless! Does this mean that the world no longer needs fresh pilots? Certainly no! According to The Boeing Company-a leading aircraft manufacturer-763,000 pilots will be needed to maintain the global aviation fleet for the next 19 years with over 200,000 pilots needed in North ...America alone! The Boeing Company recently released a pilot outlook that is projected for the next 19 years and includes different aviation operations such as commercial aviation, business aviation and civil helicopter industries. Despite the current downturn caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, long-term demand for pilots still remains robust and is expected to grow! As seen in the past with events such as 9/11, the Financial crisis of 2008 and the SARs epidemic which affected the industry adversely, not only recovery but also growth in passenger traffic was observed within a few years. With the invention of COVID-19 vaccine looming, aviation activity is expected to rise rapidly and the aviation industry will be required to adapt to the changes in traffic patterns. As a matter of fact, the most recent vaccine candidate from the American pharmaceutical giant Pfizer and its German partner BioNTech showed a 90% effectiveness in preventing COVID-19 infections and is currently ongoing Phase 3 trials. Furthermore, qualified personnel currently furloughed due to lack of demand in commercial aviation are projected to fill positions in the government, business and general aviation sectors which were previously challenged by shortages caused as a result of high demand experienced in the commercial sector in years prior to the pandemic. As commercial traffic returns to normalcy, aspiring aviators and current student pilots will have an opportunity to fill the void created by a combination of personnel heading for retirement as well as growth in aviation fleets. In short, it could never be a better time to start! All in all, meeting the projected forecast will require a collective effort in the entire aviation community. As tens of thousands of pilots and other aviation personnel reach retirement age in the next decade, a new generation of personnel will be fundamental to the overall survival and growth of the industry. As a flight school of choice, we at Select Aviation College will do our best to ensure that the next generation of aviators are accorded the best training and facilities. We are happy to contribute to the growth of the industry. TODAY IN AVIATION HISTORY SERIES In the mid 1950s the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) required a maritime patrol aircraft to replace their Lancaster aircraft serving at the time. What resulted was the introduction of the CP-107 Argus built on the basis of the Bristol Britannia. The Argus differed from the Britannia in a number of significant ways. For starters, it was powered by Wright Turbo Compound radial engines (selected in place of turboprops to give better endurance and... low speed performance at low altitude), as well as a redesigned unpressurised fuselage incorporating a weapons bay. With Canadair already producing the Argus, it was relatively simple to offer a Britannia based design to meet an RCAF requirement for an aircraft that would replace the aging DC-4M Northstar. The aircraft became the CC-106 Yukon (or to Canadair, the CL-44-6). Twelve were built, featuring Rolls Royce Tyne turboprops, lengthened fuselage with two large conventional side freight doors. The wings and tail plane, landing gears and cockpit were kept mostly the same as on the Britannia. The first Yukon flew on November 16 1959. It also featured some extra military equipment which was not taken up on the civilian version. #rcaf #canadair #aviationhistory #selectaviation See more

NOVEMBER 18, 2020: MOROCCO CELEBRATES INDEPENDENCE DAY Select Aviation College wishes the Kingdom of Morocco a happy and blissful Independence Day! Our very own student, Essaki Ahmed Mouad, is from this beautiful country and is currently an Integrated Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL) student. The country is located in the Maghreb region of North Africa. It overlooks the Mediterranean Sea to the north and the Atlantic Ocean to the west, with land borders with Algeria to ...the east and Mauritania to the south. Independence Day, also known as Fete de l'Independence, is a public holiday in the Kingdom, celebrated on November 18th each year. It is Morocco's National Day and commemorates Moroccan independence on the date King Mohammed returned from exile in 1955. Morocco's aviation industry has experienced rapid growth recently. Morocco signed an agreement with Boeing on Sept. 27, 2020 to build a new hub for the US aerospace giant that officials hope will create thousands of skilled jobs. Media reports reveal that King Mohammed VI oversaw the signing of a memorandum of understanding in the northern port city of Tangiers to establish an industrial zone where up to 120 Boeing suppliers and sub-contractors could operate. Select Aviation College will directly contribute to the growth of the industry in the Kingdom by absorbing students who are interested in training as airline pilots. #morocco #atpl #independenceday #selectaviation See more

Flying the Feathered Edge: The Bob Hoover Project is a 2014 independent documentary film about American aviator Bob Hoover. This movie shows how influential and magnificent the legendary Bob Hoover truly was. Hoover flew Spitfires in the United States Army Air Forces during World War II and was shot down in 1944 off the coast of France. He was held for over a year in a German POW camp before eventually escaping and flying to safety in a stolen enemy aircraft. He then worked a...s a United States Air Force and civilian test pilot after the war, flying chase for the Bell X-1 supersonic flight, and as a flight instructor for North American Aviation during the Korean War. He is best known as an air show display pilot, who flew for nearly 50 years until his retirement in 1999. Known as the "pilot's pilot", Hoover revolutionized modern aerobatic flying and has been described in many aviation circles as one of the greatest pilots of all time.
