Building connections through language and gaining a deeper understanding of the cultures represented at #SelkirkCollege is the focus of December 21 virtual event that prepares to welcome the New Year and spreads the holiday gift of sharing. On the last Saturday of November, Selkirk College brought together 70 screens from across the region for its Virtual Community Celebration. Subbing in for the annual Selkirk College Gala, students and staff put on an hour-plus showcase of talents featuring the Professional Cook Training Program, Resort & Hotel Management Program and the Contemporary Music & Technology Program. Recipes were shared, music was enjoyed and appropriate current-time connections were made amongst supporters of remarkable regional post-secondary. Thanks to all those who joined us on Saturday night! Selkirk College looks forward to resuming the larger in-person Gala event when safe to do so in future years. The pandemic has been unequally challenging for vulnerable populations in the #SelkirkCollege region. As part of a larger Rural Homelessness and COVID-19 project, Nursing at Selkirk College students have contributed to vital research by providing survey data that meshes with street nursing outreach work.
