Caramel Toffee Squares is an over 50 year old recipe still shattering taste buds. The closest dessert to a Twix bar we've tasted yet and the hardest part is not eating them before you freeze them! Caramel Toffee Squares Base: cup (125 mL) plus 2 tsp (10mL) soft butter... cup (50 mL) white sugar 1 cups (300 mL) all purpose flour Mix well and press into 9x 9 (22cm) pan. Bake at 350F (180C) for 20 minutes. Cool. Filling: cup (125 mL) brown sugar cup (125 mL) butter dash of salt 2 tbsp (30 mL) corn syrup cup (125 mL) Eagle Brand sweetened condensed milk tsp vanilla Combine in a double boiler and bring to a boil. Boil and stir for 5 minutes. Remove from heat, beat and pour over cooked base. Refrigerate until set. Topping: 1 - 6oz (175g) package semi-sweet chocolate chips 2 tsp (10mL) butter Melt chips and butter over low heat. Pour over the now cooled filling layer. Refrigerate or freeze. Cut into 36 squares. Pecan Crunch Cookies from our 2020 Holiday Favorites Recipe section. We had to try this recipe as it calls for potato chips! Not too sweet, yet perfectly crunchy. Pecan Crunch Cookies 1 cup butter 1/2 cup white sugar... 1 tsp vanilla 1 3/4 cup flour 1/4 tsp salt 1/2 cup crushed plain potato chips 1/2 cup chopped pecans Mix all ingredients together. Roll into balls and then roll in some extra white sugar. Place on ungreased cookie sheet. Press balls flat with bottom of a glass. Bake in 350 oven for 16 - 18 minutes. Top each cookie with a whole pecan.

At 4:22 this morning, RCMP received a report of a break and enter in progress at a retirement home in Selkirk. The suspect? A one antlered buck, still stuck ins...ide the home. Upon arrival, officers assessed the damage and determined the buck had gained entry by jumping through a glass door, losing an antler in the process. Once inside, the scared animal caused havoc but was quickly contained to an area of the home away from residents. In the hopes he’d simply leave the same way he arrived, officers opened a second door in the area and waited, but the poor buck likely feared losing his other antler through the portal and instead chose to remain at the scene. Realizing they would have to guide him out of the building, officers used furniture to create a path to the open exit door, however with only 20/100 eyesight, the buck simply couldn’t find it. Finally, an hour and a half later, when he was completely surrounded by furniture and officers holding up blankets, the buck realized the wide open door was right in front of his nose and jumped away to freedom. The cause of the incident is still under investigation but officers have not ruled out the possibility that he saw an attractive Christmas deer decoration through the window. The broken antler was seized. No humans were injured. #ThisIsWhereWeWork #MBMonday
