Meals on Wheels: just found out the Meals on Wheels are operating in the Metro St. John's area even during the pandemic. I was told the cost is $8.50 per meal and can be delivered Monday to Friday. For more information call The Canadian Red Cross @ 709-758-8400 or visit www.redcross.ca for more information. Have a great day!

I have just come across a really good read for anyone with early Alzheimer's/Dementia. "The By Us for Us Guides (BUFU guides) are a series of 14 user friendly guides created by a group people living with dementia and their care partners and can be downloaded at no cost. The guides are designed to provide people living with dementia and their care partners the necessary tools to enhance their well-being and manage daily challenges." Just Google/search MAREP (Murrary Alzheimer Research and Education Program) By Us for Us guides. Again, they are a really good read for anyone interested in obtaining more information about early dementia. Take care!

I cannot stress enough for adults, especially seniors to get their legal affairs in order. If a person becomes incapacitated due to illness or injury it is too late to appoint a trusted person to become their Enduring Power of Attorney. Having the court appoint a person as a Guardian to manage financial matters is a very costly and time consuming process. Be proactive and have your wishes documented, you have worked to hard for what you have. Take care everyone.

The purpose behind starting this service was to provide seniors with information to make informed decisions. Too often in my day job I an involved with seniors and their families when they are in crisis. Most of the time seniors I work with have lost their ability to have the capacity to make legal decisions. Thus, they loose out on letting others know what their wishes would have been if only they would have put their affairs in order prior to becoming sick or incapacitated.... I am going to sent out posts about various topics pertaining to Seniors Care issues in the next few weeks, such as process to apply to PCH/LTC, importance of completing and Advanced Health Care Directive and appointing someone as your Substitute Decision Maker, etc. If you have any question please reach out. If I do not know the answer, I will try to find it or point to in the right direction. Take Care, Tracey

With all of this time on our hands and having to stay home it is a good opportunity to look at some of our fixed bills. I recently called around to find out the dispensing cost of prescriptions and I now save over $7 per prescription. Once I paid off my car in December I reduced the amount of insurance I had on it and saved about $180 per month. Have a look at your banking package since we are now expected to use it more instead of cash. Also, take out your home insurance and... have a good look at what it covers and does it reflect the value of your home. My family experienced a house fire 11 years ago ( everyone was safe) however the insurance agent jokingly said to my husband who was responsible for the home insurance....it was me, me, me..LOL. I happened to have the best policy you could buy. At the time my though was if I paid a few extra dollars per month it could be worth it and it was. Take this time to take care of yourself and review your expenses that normally you would be too busy to look at because once this is over we will all be gone out for 6 months straight. Stay safe!!!
