The fall colours will be gone soon, but we're loving them while they are here. Ram lambs are doing a great job grazing a spent hay field at the home farm!
What does a whole lamb for the freezer look like? Here's what you can expect from an average order about 38-42 pounds hanging weight. This is: four half legs (a great pot roast size), shanks, ribs, 2 packs ground, 5 packs kabob/stew, and 4-5 packs of lamb chops. You can customize your order with full legs, shoulder roasts, full racks, more ground vs. kabob and more! (not pictured: liver, heart, kidney, and soup bones) We are currently booking whole and half orders for late October and into November! Physically distanced pick up available, as is credit/debit.
Our fall lamb run is just about ready to begin! These lambs were born on grass and have spent every day grazing the solar site. We're now booking orders (whole and half) for mid to late October and should have a good supply through November ahead of the holiday season and those long, cold winter days! Message for details!
We have been so busy with hay and some much needed family time. But we have missed The Log Farm market and can’t wait to be back this Saturday fully restocked with lamb chops, maple cran sausage, kabob cubes and more! 670 Cedarview, Saturday’s 9-2!
Cooler, rainy weather is perfect for slow simmering dishes. Stop by The Log Farm farmers' market Saturday 9-2 at 670 Cedarview and pick up a bone broth base! $5/package of soup bones available. We're also re-stocked with chops, kabob cubes, leg of lamb and more!

Mutton, mutton, whos got the mutton? We do! We are lining up a limited number of animals for butcher. Interested? Zip us a message! We will have boneless kabob, chops, and ground mutton up for grabs. (This recipe is also delicious with lamb!) https://www.indianhealthyrecipes.com/mutton-curry-recipe-m/
Sheep love fresh grass. Our ewes (and some March ewe lambs, plus a guardian dog) move quickly to a new paddock
This past weekend was an incredibly busy one for our crew. Shearer Tyler spent all of Friday and Saturday shearing most of the flock under the watchful eye of our newest pup. Did you know? Shearing is a key part of sheep health. Except for hair sheep, sheeps wool grows continuously and needs to be removed each year to keep animals clean and healthy. Shearing is not painful for sheep its just like getting your hair cut, but buzz cuts only :) We often get asks about our wool, too. While our sheep benefit greatly from their wool (it keeps them cozy all winter long), its not a great quality for spinning or weaving. BUT all wool has value for a number of things from industrial fibre, to insulation, and more. Most of this wool will be composted and be returned to feed our pastures and hay field soil!
It has been an amazing week of seeing our lamb prepared and enjoyed! Chef James Watt prepared this braised lamb shank and roast shoulder for an anniversary celebration. Well have both shanks and shoulder available Saturday 9-2 at The Log Farm! And try our maple cranberry sausages!
This week, Amanda from Limestone Acres is hosting our booth and bringing a boat load of fresh, organically grown veggies. Shell have our lamb, too, including chorizo sausage, loin chops, leg chops, shanks, and ribs! Visit The Log Farm, 9-2, Saturdays!
Come say hello and stock up on the weeks ingredients!
The ewes are earning their keep at the solar site, eating grass and living their best life. This group includes ewe lambs from last year and earlier this spring. Weve been planning to shear for weeks now, and keep getting rained on. Well try again!
Want something a little more substantial than chop pops? Weve got a great selection of lamb leg steaks tender, delicious, and a quick way to enjoy those premium leg cuts. Visit us at the Barrhaven Farmers Market Saturdays 9-2 at The Log Farm!
We have a limited amount of half/whole lamb for end of the month! Let us know if youd like to set up the freezer with BBQ treats for the rest of the summer!

Saturday is market day we head down to the Barrhaven Farmers Market at The Log Farm to sell lamb!
Well be at the Log Farm on Saturday morning with a selection of lamb cuts, lamb sausage, and even goat! See you there!
Were very happy with this years lamb crop watching them graze alongside their mamas and grow like weeds is very satisfying for a sheep farmer.
Were not going to be at The Log Farm June 6th for opening day of the Farmers Market, but we WILL be there June 13. Social distancing in effect (well accept et-ransfer and payments by card!) and pre-orders would be appreciated! Well post inventory later this week!
Its Local Food Week here in Ontario, and to celebrate, weve donated about 50 pounds of ground lamb to the West Carleton Food Access Centre. Thanks to Mr Beef at Pakenham for donating the cut and wrap. #eatlocal #localfoodweek #loveOntLamb #loveOntFood
Huge thank you to The Bray family for letting us rent their beautiful red barn to grow out these ewe lambs. Today was the big move to the solar for these girls down the road! (a first for all of us). So thankful for good neighbours and green grass.
New lambs are arriving daily at the solar site!
Herd dog Dash doing a great job holding the sheep back (look how proud she is!) while farmer Chris sorts off a new mama into fresh grass. Lambing has started and is going well!
Lambing is set to begin Monday, but this mama decided triplets werent going to wait any longer. All are doing well and on fresh grass now. We select ewes with great mothering ability, lots of milk, and that lamb unassisted. This ewe is all that, and then some! Cheers to the lambing season ahead!
Nearly a week in at the solar site and the sheep seem to remember how to make the move between fresh paddocks. They are along MacHardy for just another day or two!
Our third year of solar grazing starts...now! For those in the Arnprior area, the sheep will be along MacHardy road for the next week, likely. Youre welcome to come take a look, but please do not approach the fence (its a solar power station after all, and our dogs will not appreciate the intrusion)
Welcome to all our new followers! Were so ready for green grass, and so are the ewes, but in the meantime theyre staying happy on hay here at home. ETA for the solar is late next week.
The ewes have moved to the spring pasture one that offers plenty of shelter from rain, fresh water to drink, a thick thatch to protect the soil, and some new shoots to nibble (when they begin). The move went well, and the guard dogs are settling in just fine. Can you spot the dog in this photo?
We are booking freezer orders for May! We will have a limited number of mixed packages available (chops, kabob, ground, possibly sausage, but thats TBD). Comment below if youd like to be notified once we have more details!
Happy St. Paddys Day! Weve got 10 vacuum packs of lamb cubes available for farm pickup (no grocery store trip required, sorry we have no TP). Special $10 each! Zip us a text at 613-913-4994 and well have it ready for you.
We are so very pleased to have provided our neighbour with this #solarraised lamb! Community is so important, and we are so excited to see Ruth and her family learning to butcher and feed themselves.
Our herding dog takes a well deserved rest in the unrolled bales in our wintering pasture. Its Canadas Ag Day were so thankful to be a part of this community, growing food and feeding the soil, too.
The ewes have been home for nearly 2 months. Time flies! In the winter, we unroll bales on pasture for the flock. Unrolling means no one fights for feed, and nutrients (organic matter, urine, and manure) are spread evenly over next years pasture (at left). The rams went in December 25th, for late May lambing (we cant wait!). The holiday season was a challenge here as farmer Chris ended up ill -- farmer Lyndsey took over doing the feeding...which meant unrolling didnt go as planned (at right). But everyone got fed, and Chris is mostly recovered. To spring being just around the corner!
Our next generation of herding dog is seven weeks old! Dogs are a key part of raising sheep the way we do guardians to keep the sheep safe, and herding dogs to keep hundreds of sheep moving where we need them too. Looking forward to seeing this girl grow!
Weve got a holiday special on right now! Half a lamb (approx. 15-20 pounds hanging weight) at $8/pound. Roasts, chops, and kabob cubes! Ready end of this week. Message for pick up details!
The ewes have moved home and are settling in to their winter pasture! We are finalizing processing orders for the next week -- if youd like lamb, let us know! Also, we have goat meat ready! Delivery possible, depending on location.
Ruminants (sheep, cattle, goats) are fantastic upcyclers! They take what would be waste like these unloved pumpkins and turn it into high quality, nutrient dense food (and wool, except that these ones got into burrs, so....) Farmer Chris sure does look proud of his pumpkin-as-feed!
We were lucky enough to meet with Lexie Hain, general manager of the American Solar Grazing Association, and Lewis Fox, solar grazier from New York, last week. Last week was also the Ontario Sheep Convention -- a great few days to connect with out fellow sheep producers and learn, learn, learn. Our cup is full!
