Expired Marriage Licence Policy: Many marriage ceremonies are being postponed as a result of government recommendations regarding public gatherings, due to the spread of the COVID-19 virus. As a result, many marriage licences will expire before the marriage can go ahead. Until further notice, depending on the circumstances, marriage licences issued on or after December 11, 2019, that have expired before they are used, may be replaced by the VS office at no cost to couples.... December 11, 2019 is 3 months in advance of the March 11, 2020 announcement by the WHO declaring the COVID-19 virus a pandemic. Note: you are always required by law to have a valid marriage licence to perform a marriage ceremony.
