Grand Coteau Heritage and Cultural Centre 27.09.2020

Here's another Culture Days | Fête de la culture inspired event happening at the Grand Coteau Centre this month: Introducing our October Gallery exhibition ARTifacts: Curiosities from our Collection. Kelly & Tammy had a wonderful time exploring our vault full of artifacts looking for unexpected pieces of art for this exhibition. ... We hope you will enjoy the wide variety of pieces on display many of which have been hand crafted by local people. Quite a few of these items have never been displayed in the Gallery, so it is terrific to be able to bring them out for the public to appreciate. Please note that masks are not required in the Gallery as long as folks are able to maintain proper physical distancing, but we ask you to bring a mask along with you in case a situation arises where physical distancing is not possible. This exhibition is brought to you with funding assistance from SaskCulture, thanks to the Sask Lotteries Trust Fund for Sport, Culture and Recreation.

Join us for Coffee Chat this Friday, October 2 and help us celebrate Culture Days | Fête de la culture! To allow for proper physical distancing we are hosting two sessions - session #1: 9:30 to 10:30 AM, session #2: 11:00 AM to 12:00 Noon. Please pre-register by calling us at 306-297-3882. Our discussion topic will be Art is All Around Us - inspired by the Culture Days theme, "Unexpected Intersections", and our October Gallery Exhibition, "ARTifacts: Curiosities from our Coll...ection". We're asking participants to look around and find an "unexpected" piece of art to bring with you - it will be fun to see and discuss the different pieces! See the poster for all of the details - and don't forget to give us a call to register or if you would like more information. Many thanks to our Coffee Chat sponsors The Speirs Family and SaskCulture, thanks to the Sask Lotteries Trust Fund for Sport Culture and Recreation.

And now for the rest of the story... On Friday August 28, the final act of kindness for Medwyn's Kids Kindness Challenge was performed by Medwyn and her friend Avril as they rode their bikes around the Town of Shaunavon delivering treats to the children who had registered for the Challenge. Nearly 30 children had signed up for the 10 day Challenge - and Medwyn was beaming with excitement as she, Avril, Vern (Challenge sponsor V8 Ranch), along with Medwyn's Mom Bree (who was a...lso a Challenge sponsor) met at the Grand Coteau Centre to prepare for their deliveries. The girls stuffed their backpacks full of candies and stickers, they had their masks on for safety and the blue truck which was their support vehicle was decked out with Kindness Challenge posters. They paused briefly for a photo opportunity and an interview with The Shaunavon Standard, then headed out on their mission. Medwyn was looking forward to seeing the children's faces light up when they were given their treats - and she thanked everyone for their support, including Jae's Pharmacy who had contributed treats to the project. It took about one and a half hours for the troupe to complete their deliveries - and the girls were exhausted and exhilarated when it was all said and done.... Thank you, Medwyn, for inspiring us to spread joy, kindness and love throughout our community! One kid CAN make a big difference! We now challenge everyone to keep the spirit of Medwyn's Kindness Challenge going - because kindness is a gift that everyone can afford to give!
