Meet Sharon: Every day when I come to work, I love seeing the changes in patients’ smiles and the impact it has on their lives! - I have been working in the ortho field for more than 13 years. I worked in a general dental office which offered appliances and braces for 2 years. I graduated from my dental assistant program in 2006 and shortly after became an orthodontic assistant and worked in ortho clinics ever since.... - I love hiking, traveling around the world with my husband and our daughter and son. When I’m free, I also like to walk with my dog Shazo.

This commitment to ensuring a safe environment has been paramount to top quality orthodontic care. Our office follows infection control protocols outlined by the Alber...ta Dental Association. We also follow the activities of Alberta Health so that we are current to any new rulings or guidance that may be issued. We do this to make sure that our safety and infection control procedures adhere to the most updated regulations outlined, as dynamics change quickly. You will see some changes when it is time for your next appointment. We made these changes to help protect you, your family and our staff. Prior to entering the office, you would need to have completed an on-line screening questionnaire. We would kindly request the family members to stay in the vehicle in order to minimize traffic flow to the office. Parents who would wish to accompany patients also need to complete a screening questionnaire and there is the limit of one (1) parent per family. Patients (and accompanying parents) need to wear their own face masks or face covering when entering the office. No exceptions please. Patients would remove the mask just prior to starting the procedure and put on the mask at the completion of the procedure. Upon entering the office, our staff will take your temperature (criteria is <38oC) and direct you to the hand-washing station to perform hand hygiene. A 1% hydrogen peroxide pre-procedural mouth rinse for 30 seconds must be performed and expectorated into the same dispensing cup. You will see that our reception area no longer offers magazines and video game stations since those items are difficult to clean and disinfect. Appointments will be managed to allow for social distancing between patients. That might mean that youre offered fewer options for scheduling your appointment. We are temporarily suspending the appointment rewards program We look forward to seeing you again and are happy to answer any questions you may have about the steps we take to keep you, and every patient, safe in our practice. Lets talk rubber bands/ elastics. Why do you need them? Rubber elastics help to position your top and bottom teeth in proper occlusion. There are many different ways to wear elastics and different strengths of elastics prescribed by your orthodontist. In order for the elastics to work correctly, they need to be worn daily for 22 hours, and changed multiple times a day. Curious about the way elastics are worn? One of our most common questions we get from patients and parents towards the end of treatment is "Do i have to wear a retainer? and if so for how long?" The answer is YES!. After having braces, it is VERY IMPORTANT to wear your retainer for the recommended time given by your orthodontist. This is called RETENTION. Retention is lifetime. At the beginning it is highly important to wear your retainer FULL TIME until your orthodontist says it's ok to wear only at nigh time. You've worn braces for 12-24 months, we would hate to see your teeth shift because of not wearing your retainer.

Have you experienced a broken bracket? Here are some quick tips on how to avoid a loose or broken bracket: -Allow bracket glue to fully harden (this can take up to 24 hrs) having soup, smoothies, yogurt and oatmeal for the first 24 hrs will help reduce chewing and allowing glue to strengthen. -Avoid hard, sticky, chewy and crunchy foods the entire duration of your treatment. -Keep your fingers, pens and pencils out of your mouth... -If you play physical sports a mouthguard is highly recommended. -BRUSH BRUSH BRUSH. Good oral hygiene is highly important. If too much plaque builds up around the brackets there's a greater risk of brackets coming off, not to mention we don't want you to experience decalcification.
