"A powerful reconciliation opportunity is within reach for any government in Canada that has the vision to grasp it. That opportunity can produce vast net posit...ives: wildfire-risk mitigation, environmental and cultural protection, the building of healthier Indigenous communities and job creation. That work is even happening right now it just needs our support." See more

Orange Shirt day is September 30 and we are preparing to commemorate this important day for survivors with custom orange shirts for our Indigenous community. ...More than 150,000 First Nations, Metis and Inuit Children were kidnapped from their homes and placed into these schools, which acted as prisons full of assimilation, torture, abuse and premature death. Thousands of Children died or went missing in these schools, and none of the Churches or officials were prosecuted for these crimes. By attacking the family, and forcefully removing children from hundreds of thousands of Indigenous families, the Canadian Government continued their aggressive attempts to colonize our People. This colonial agenda continued with Indian Day Schools where once again, 200,000 Indigenous children across this country were forcefully placed in schools aimed at assimilating them through language bans, and were rife with all forms of physical, mental, sexual and spiritual abuse. This has only continued with the 60s and millennial scoop which continue to force our children into foreign Eurocentric systems, oppression and early death in attempts to colonize us and displace us from our traditional governance systems, languages and homelands to continue to have a free for all in natural resource extraction while a lot of our people struggle to survive day to day. Despite all of this, we are here. We resist, we thrive, and we continue to bring our children into an Indigenous world that they can thrive in here on Turtle Island. This years Orange Shirt depicts a Jingle Dress dancer, a symbol of Healing, ceremony and resurgence that comes from the Anishinaabek Nation. Her gaze is strong and critical, her stance upright and determined. An embodiment of resilience and strength. Through this depiction, we hope to share a message of Hope and Healing for the future with you all. A portion of these sales will go to Indigenous Harm Reduction Toronto, to support survivors of residential, Indian day schools and the 60s scoop who are currently houseless and living on the streets of Toronto. The funds will go towards ongoing critical needs, health supplies, traditional food and Cultural support. Shirts are $25 each + shipping (if applicable) and you can pre-order by emailing your size and let us know if youd like to pick it up or have it shipped email at [email protected] Thank you all for your support and please help by sharing this post to help raise awareness and also do research to learn more. Miigwetch <3 Organizers: Nanook is a first generation survivor of residential schools, with late Mother being a survivor who attended Sir Alexander Mackenzie School in Inuvik - across the Arctic they displaced thousands of Inuit children from their rich cultures, traditions and loving families. Bri is a first generation survivor of Indian Day schools, which her Mother attended in Wikwemikong. She is also a second generation survivor, with Nokomis being forced to attend Spanish residential school.

Service Canada has set up a SEPARATE phone line to contact them to set up EI claims for quarantine, illness, work closure, etc due to COVID-19. They will not he...lp you with anything else at this number. Likewise, the main EI number cannot help you with COVID-19 claims. The number is 1-833-381-2725. There is over an hour average wait time to speak to someone at the main number, so please take some of the load off them and use the COVID-19 # if that is what you need to talk to them about. Also, they are waiving the 1 week waiting period for 2 week quarantines, so if you are affected, apply right away.

The shutting down of things is reminding me of the slowness of sundays when stores were closed. Its reminding me of days when my mom sewed my clothes because i...t was cheaper than buying them. Its reminding me of when the air was fresher and the water was cleaner. The slowness, the shutting down, the rests, the pauses. These are all good. Im concerned for people. But also aware that the earth cant sustain a world with economic growth and 24-7 consumerism. I dont want anyone to suffer, or worse, to pass on because of this virus. But I appreciate the shut down for the reminders of how things were and how easily we could return to simpler ways and what a positive impact these changes could have for the planet. #coronavirus #covid19

Wow! We survived lucky number leg 7 in #kitchenerwaterloo of #amazingracecanada @amazingracecda @ctv @ctv_pr and are headed to #lamalbaie #quebec for leg 8. One... of our mini goals was to make it long enough on the show to celebrate our second #anniversary since our #marathonmarriage @bmovanmarathon In 2017. Anthony surprised me with a beautiful bracelet, little did I know it was from #Tiffany - like I said in episode 3 with the #diamond challenge in #yellowknife Im just a simple country gal Im so blessed to have found Anthony my #dene #navajo Superman and that an @outmagazine Article brought us together A little more info on Cree and French people for the next leg. #nehiy #nehiyawak (people of the four directions or four bodied human beings - what we refer to ourselves in #nehiyawewin our own language) were named #Cree by the #French people - we do not call ourselves this. It comes from La cris or the screamers in the French language as they witnessed our #sakaway - our cry of joy or greeting to one another, which uplifts and ignites the spirit. This spirit was suppressed for years because of #residentialschools, the #sixtiesscoop and other federal government policies that aimed to eliminate our #Indigeneity and life ways. @thephoenixfox and I went on TARC7 in part to remind people of the original intent of our #Treaty agreements made in #Peace and #Friendship, and how we are supposed to live in this land together in harmony, and that one Nation is not better or should impede the other. That we were to live and coexist on #TurtleIsland to have a good life. I hope that one day this original agreement and vision is achieved. Ps. We will miss The Moms @trishandamy PPS. Who likes squished #falafel balls anyway? and charred marks equal flavor #faceoff PPPS. Thanks to my #physics and Math high school teachers in #StPaul for teaching me how to do #math - thanks Mr. Kutash and Palinka. Math is important kids! #mathletes Also, we are away next week, so no viewing party folks - sorry See more
