This past weekend, our team completed substation maintenance for a customer in St. Catharines. Our electricians installed personal protective grounds on the main switch, cleaned and inspected insulators. Substation maintenance assures reliable supply and reduction in failures. Many failures can be detected during electrical substation maintenance routines, reducing the risk of significant plant downtime and preventing future problems. Over the past few weeks, our team has been working on a new high voltage service for a customer in Grimsby. Our team installed two 2500 KVA transformers and one high voltage pad mount switch. The final step in this project was to install 7 bollards to protect the transformer from any damage.

It was a beautiful day for the SGC team to complete maintenance on two of our customers aerators. Once the repairs were completed at the SGC shop, the aerators were delivered to site and placed into the pond using our telehandler. Aerators are designed to mix and oxygenate the water beneath the surface.

It has been an exciting and busy start to a new project. This week, our team excavated and installed a slide rail system designed to allow safe access to our work area. SGC also fabricated and placed a 15’ x 13’ rebar cage. Once concrete is poured, our team will be placing a fiberglass sewage tank. This is all in preparation for a sewage pumping station upgrade for a customer in St. Catharines.

Automation and PLC control has always been a service that SGC is proud to offer. We have been building panels for power distribution, pump control and PLC control at our panel shop for one of our customers. The panels were moved into place and SGC’s journeyman electrician Mark is shown here doing terminations. This was part of a large-scale electrical upgrade at a Sewage Pumping Station.

This week has been a great start to a new project. Our team excavated and installed 6,000 feet of DB2 conduit, poured approximately 100 m3 of concrete for a duct bank encasement and placed one of eight high voltage vaults. This is one stage of an exciting project for our customer to generate power with bi-product gas. Stay tuned to see our progress!

Over the past few months, we have been working on an electrical upgrade and expansion for both high voltage and low voltage systems at a customer site in Fort Erie. As this project comes to its final stages, our lineman is shown energizing the 28 KV line. Throughout the duration of this project, SGC installed numerous 28 KV & 5KV poles, 5 pole top transformers and 15 pad mount distribution transformers which supply over 200 sites.

There is a lot of prep work that needs to be done before installing pad mount transformers. Our team is shown leveling the base and lifting a high voltage vault into place.

Sid Grabell Contracting received a customer request to replace an old, deteriorated hydro pole with a new pole. Our crew installed a new back guy, anchor and framed the pole. Our Powerline Journeyman is shown here in our bucket truck making the final connection needed to install the new LED light onto the pole.
