Support the Friends of STARS Experience NEWS RELEASE For immediate release CALGARY, December 4, 2020 Friends of STARS Experience Alberta (FOSEA) is launching an exciting... project in support of STARS and Alberta’s tourism industry. Alberta sponsors have generously contributed to 50 Alberta Experience prize packages worth more than $64,000, providing winners a chance to enjoy the wonders of their own backyard in 2021. STARS will host an online raffle for the prizes. Prize packages are organized in five categories: Family Fun; Family Sports Enthusiasts; Attractions, Entertainment & Activities; Sports Enthusiasts; and Arts, Nature & Outdoor Fun. The custom packages include a wide range of exciting activities including glamping, white water rafting, hot air balloon rides, golfing and much more! Winners will experience Alberta from Wood Buffalo to the Mighty Peace; Jasper to Banff; Rocky Mountain House to Drumheller; and Lethbridge to the Crowsnest Pass, along with many other regions throughout our great province. Tickets can be purchased for individual categories at one for $20 or three for $50. The draw will take place on February 1, 2021. The COVID19 situation has limited what Albertans can do and experience this year, which has hurt the province’s tourism industry, said Debora Rice-Salomons, co-chair of FOSEA. As a non-profit organization, we rely on support from groups like FOSEA and the generosity of Albertans to ensure STARS is there for the next patient in need, said Andrea Robertson, STARS president and CEO. Last year alone, 1,325 missions were flown from our bases in Calgary, Edmonton and Grande Prairie. Last Months Events Annual Christmas Toy Drive The toy drive was a huge success!! We received approximately $3,000 worth of toys and $200.00 in cash / gift cards.... The toys were collected from our clients, members and the Calgary Fire Fighters, through their toy collection. A special thank you to Gord and Joanne Robb. It's become quite a tradition and a way to give back to our community. Thank you to everyone who participated and make this effort so incredible. This year everything was donated to the Carstairs Lions Club for their 2020 Christmas Hamper efforts.

Some of you may have wondered what has Gwen ( Don's wife ) co-owner of Silver Willow been up to lately. Well partly its been this book project that's been in the works for almost 3 years and will be launched this Friday. Kurtis, the past outside staff person at Silver Willow did the photography on this project as well. Paint the Barn Red is the story of rural life and agriculture in Mountain View County from the time of the first settlers in this community to the present. Th...e tale is told through paintings of 50 iconic barns, representative of different eras and painted by 41 local artists. The paintings will be printed in full size in a 9 X 12 (horizontal) format along with their stories, as told by the current and past owners and their families. The book will be bound as a beautiful hard cover featuring one of the paintings, which was selected by a jury of experts. The books are destined to be passed on to family members as heirlooms and memories of a time when these majestic barns could be found everywhere. Last Months Events Fall Turkey Shoot - October 17th This is always a fun event. Even though we got out first snow fall of winter, we had a great turn out. The HOA winner was Bob Ferguson with a score of 90 out of 100. ... After the sporting clay portion, shooters gathered by the Duck Pond for the "Turkey Shoot" event, which consisted of a number of different shooting games. Spit Roasted Duck INGREDIENTS 1/2 cup orange marmalade ... 1/2 cup fresh orange juice 3 tablespoons balsamic vinegar 4 garlic cloves, minced 2 tablespoons finely chopped rosemary leaves One (4 to 4 1/2 pound) duck Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste DIRECTIONS 1) Prepare a gas or charcoal grill for rotisserie cooking over indirect medium heat (or according to the instructions for your grill). Place the drip pan under the center of the spit. 2) In a small saucepan, combine the marmalade, orange juice, balsamic vinegar, garlic, and rosemary and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat to medium-low and gently simmer for 5 minutes. Remove from the heat and let cool. Pour 1/4 cup of the sauce into a small bowl to use for basting the duck, and pour the rest into a small serving bowl for passing at the table. 3) Meanwhile, remove all the excess fat from the duck. Wash the duck and dry it thoroughly both inside and out with paper towels. With a sharp metal skewer, prick the duck skin all over, especially the thighs, 50 times. Season the duck inside and out with salt and pepper to taste. Tie the legs together and brush the duck all over with a light coating of the orange- marmalade mixture. 4) Place the duck on the spit and secure it with the clamps. Attach it to the rotisserie mechanism, cover the grill, and cook until the temperature in the thickest part of the thigh reaches 160F (71C), 1 1/4 to 1 3/4 hours, depending on the heat of your grill. About 15 minutes before the duck is done, brush it all over again with more of the orange sauce. When the duck is done, transfer it to a cutting board and let rest for 15 minutes. 5) Carve the duck and pass the remaining orange sauce on the side.
