On behalf of 'The SilverShoe Historical Society', I am deeply saddened to announce the passing of a cherished friend & the last of our Charter Elders, Mrs. Orma Wines, on Wednesday, March 30, 2022. Our dear Orma passed away in the Collingwood General & Marine Hospital, at the age of 83. She was the former Orma Weatherall, wife of the late Burnfield 'Burnie' Wines, who passed away in 2011; and the daughter of the late, Arnott & Esther (Bellamy) Weatherall. Deep & Profound Symp...athy goes out to the Wines children: Heather, Esther, Ellen & Fred and their families. CONDOLENCES go out to former Councilwoman, Deb Bronee & her family, on learning of the passing of her beloved Father, EDWARD 'TED' HANNAN. Mr. Hannan was Clearview Township's 1st CAO and oversaw the amalgamation of Creemore, Stayner, Nottawasaga & Sunnidale. He was also instrumental and of great assistance to me and my SilverShoe Historical Society Team (then known as the Bethel-Union Pioneer Cemetery Committee, before our Incorporation), during the initial stages of the restoration of the Cemetery in Old Sunnidal Township.

The S.S.H.S. wishes to express our condolences to our Vice-President, Charles Schell for the recent loss of his cousin, Paul Morrison.

While I was waiting for the Car Caravan from GLOBAL LEADERSHIP VILLAGE (Toronto) to arrive, I took the opportunity to do a quick Site inspection to check for any possible safety hazards. I noticed these wildflowers on the MEMORIAL MOUND. For those FB Friends who have never been to BETHEL-UNION PIONEER CEMETERY, the Mound has been allowed to revert to a natural state to give our guests an small idea of what the entire South-side of the Cemetery looked like before the S.S.H.S.... became the Site Advocate. The Mound was formed in 1961 when a bulldozer was brought in by the Municipality to clear away many, many years of debris. See more

This great group of folks from 'GLOBAL LEADERSHIP VILLAGE' (Toronto) took advantage of the long weekend and the beautiful weather to take an impromptu Tour of Bethel-Union Pioneer Cemetery, this afternoon. The group was hosted by S.S.H.S. Executive Director, Janie Cooper-Wilson.

It was a beautiful day for a Tour and that's exactly what was happening at Bethel-Union Pioneer Cemetery, this afternoon. 'The SilverShoe Historical Society' was pleased to welcome another group from the GTA, when 10 Guests from "GLOBAL LEADERSHIP VILLAGE" arrived at the Site in a Car Caravan. The group was hosted by S.S.H.S. Executive Director, Janie Cooper-Wilson.
