Starting the week off right with some therapy dog love! This is Sky, who has been a St. John Ambulance therapy dog since early 2017. Through his volunteer role, he spreads comfort and joy at a variety of spots in #Vancouver including universities, hospitals, and even libraries where he helps children with their reading. Thank you Sky for making such a pawsitive impact in your community! We bet you can't wait until you can return to your regular visits. Support our therapy pups at https://supportsja.ca/therapydogs.

Our instructors are so important when it comes to spreading the importance of CPR, given that they teach it to thousands of students a year! Michael, a dedicated instructor with us for nearly 30 years, taught first aid in the #LowerMainland but is currently teaching in #Kelowna. In honour of #CPRMonth, he shared with us a recent story of a student that put her skills to use after one of his classes. Register to learn lifesaving skills: https://www.sja.ca/.

Back at the end of October, our wonderful #Victoria therapy dog team safely spread some joy at their local Subaru! The best kind of work break. We’re proud to have Subaru Canada as a partner of our therapy dog program. Their support helps make our therapy dog visits possible, so the least we can do is give them a visit once in awhile too!

Our #Burnaby division is currently hosting a speakers series, and recently held their first one with The Honourable Carla Qualtrough! In the video, she speaks on accessibility, inclusion, volunteerism, and takes questions from our Burnaby youth volunteers. Thank you Carla Qualtrough! The opportunity for our youth volunteers to hear you speak on your journey and experience is incredibly valuable. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LCCRoZu-gVI

Great news! We applaud #Ontario for recognizing the importance of AEDs. This choice will save lives. We are consistently campaigning for AEDs to be placed in every public space in BC, both indoors and outdoors. We hope that day will come soon! http://ow.ly/XVHc50CklRt

On #RemembranceDay, we also remember all of our volunteers who went to help overseas and assisted in their own communities during the World Wars. In World War I, a huge role for our volunteers was caring for the injured, giving aid to thousands at voluntary detachment hospitals. In World War II, our volunteers took on the important task of training the air raid precaution team in first aid and emergency preparedness for gas attacks. Other ways our volunteers got involved was assisting with transport and building first aid and care packages for families. We are forever thankful to our past volunteers, all who have served, and all who continue to today. #LestWeForget

"One-third of the 16,364 people who died from opioid overdoses over a roughly four-year period in Canada were in British Columbia." Photos to warm your heart! These pictures are from a recent visit our therapy dogs took to the #Delta School District office before school started back up. Planning for school this year was likely more stressful than past ones, so we hope a moment with a therapy pup added some calm and joy in their day.
