This Thursday, we’re throwing it back to simpler times when we could join together for in-person programs and events. We surely miss being in schools and shops, but know that we’ll be back in the community before we know it! Around this time last year, we were visiting Fredericton’s École des Bâtisseurs for our first-ever Hairstyling Challenge. Six students had the opportunity to showcase their hairstyling skills in front of their entire school! This was an excellent way to... introduce essential skills learning to students who had a passion for hairstyling. Participating in training and then applying what they’ve learned through this challenge helped to expand their skillset, grow their confidence and expose them to a potential career path! We’re so thankful for our Alumni, Michelle Gilbert, who worked diligently in making all of this happen! // Ce jeudi, nous revenons à une époque plus simple où nous pouvions nous réunir pour des programmes et des événements en personne. Nous manquons tellement la présence dans les écoles mais sachez que nous serons de retour dans la communauté avant même de nous en rendre compte! L'année dernière, nous avons visité l'École des Bâtisseurs de Fredericton pour notre tout premier défi de coiffure. Six élèves ont eu l'occasion de montrer leurs talents de coiffeur devant leur école! C'était une excellente façon de présenter l'apprentissage des compétences essentielles aux élèves qui avaient une passion pour la coiffure. En participant à la formation et en appliquant ensuite ce qu'ils ont appris grâce à ce défi, ils ont pu élargir leurs compétences, accroître leur confiance et les exposer à un éventuel parcours professionnel ! Nous sommes très reconnaissants envers notre ancienne élève, Michelle Gilbert , qui a travaillé fort pour que tout cela se réalise!

This month Spotlight features Candice Mclean, a Red Seal Welder with a level 1 Welding inspector and recently achieved her 2nd Red Seal as a Boilermaker. She fi...rst attended CCNB - Collège communautaire du Nouveau-Brunswick (page officielle) to complete her welding certification and her apprenticeship was mostly done in Bathurst region. Candice was interested in the trade when she learned in her young years that women too we’re allowed to be trades people. ‘’What made me pursue my trade to the next level was seeing my dad achieve his Red Seal. I would see him leaving on different job sites , showing me pictures of his work and guiding me the best he could with his knowledge of the trade. ‘’ The advice she could give to other woman who are hesitant to take a trade would be to face the fear and turn it around to make you work even for success. ‘’ What I love the most about my trade is the challenges it brings. Wondering how we’re going to get a project done and then having satisfaction at walking off site knowing it was a job well done and feeling proud of my clean work ‘’ Candice attended Skills Canada New Brunswick-Compétences Canada N.-B. during her college course and finished 3rd place. Elle s’est inscrite au programme de Soudure par le biais du CCNB - Collège communautaire du Nouveau-Brunswick (page officielle) et a fait la majorité de son apprentissage dans la région de Bathurst. Candice s’est intéresser dans les métiers dès son jeune âge quand elle à réaliser que les femmes aussi pouvaient exceller dans ces domaines. ‘’ Ce qui m’a encourager à poursuivre mon rêve à été de voir mon père obtenir son Sceau Rouge. Il me montrait ses accomplissements sur différents sites de travail et me guidait du mieux qu’il pouvait ‘’ Le conseil qu’elle pourrait donner aux femmes qui sont hésitantes de poursuivre un métier est de surmonter la peur et de la prendre comme un allié pour atteindre vos buts. ‘’ Les défis que m’apporte mon métier est la chose que j’aime le plus. Il n’y a rien de plus satisfaisant que de voir un projet se concrétiser et de quitter un chantier en étant fière du travaille accomplie ‘’ Durant son apprentissage au collège, Candice à également participer à Skills Canada New Brunswick-Compétences Canada N.-B. et à obtenue la troisième position.
