Hooray to Kathryn Joel and her ability to bring cooking and knowledge into our homes. Many local food industry friends have learned to pivot and we applaud them during this strange year. Continue to support local! And share Get Cooking with friends outside of Edmonton who are looking to take some classes from the comfort of their own homes.

More amazing content coming from our friend Kevin Kossowan! Another showcase of local and edible foods right in your backyard.

Slow Food has lost one of their biggest Canadian champions. Anita Stewart was at the helm of the Slow Food In Canada movement. She was a firm believer in knowing your food, making and fostering relationships, and being a voice for change. She will be missed and her legacy will live on through every person she touched with her vibrancy and down to earth attitude about eating local and supporting your Canadian food heritage.

How did your garden go this year? Share your success and your failures. We can all learn from each other. Did you try growing vegetables this year? How did yours do? Anywhere as good as the bounty from Mr. Ross’s garden in 1902? There’s supposedly a 61 pound pumpkin in that pile, according to the October 3, 1902 edition of the Edmonton Bulletin. PAA Photo #: B9021: Vegetables from Ross’ garden. 1902.

Hi everyone!! You may remember that I ran an egg carton drive back in the spring, and in total 397 egg cartons were collected! It was super great to see us all... come together to help Edmonton's Food Bank out. If you didn’t hear, empty egg cartons are used by the Food Bank to repackage bulk eggs into family sized portions. They accept both 12s and 18s, and have recently posted that they are almost out of cartons! Let’s come together once again and gather up our egg cartons. I know some of you have been saving them! - If your grocery store has a Food Bank donation box, you can place your egg cartons right in there, and they will make their way to the Food Bank! - If you live close to the West End of the city, you can drop egg cartons directly off at the Food Bank (11508 120 st NW). - If you do not have access to a vehicle, you can PM me directly and we can work together to see if I can pick them up from you. - If you live near Whyte Avenue, you can drop them off at my place (PM for address). - Lastly, if you prefer to drop egg cartons off at the Reuse Centre, the Campus Food Bank, or any other location reusing egg cartons, I encourage you to do it! What better way to keep waste out of our disposal systems, and our non profits well stocked. If you didn’t know that egg cartons could be donated, your friends probably don’t know either! Let’s share this info so Edmonton's Food Bank can be stocked throughout the school year
