Thank you 20 MILLION times Brockville, ON November 6, 2020 As part of the community share of the newly opened Donald B. Green Tower, the Brockville and District Hospital Foundation presented a $20 million cheque to the Brockville General Hospital (BGH). The health, well-being and safety of our community has always been important, and we are more aware of this because of the COVID-19 virus, said Jim Cooper, Chair of the Hospital’s Board of Directors. Over the past ye...ar, through the hard work by the Foundation, residents, individuals, business and organizations across Brockville and Leeds Grenville have made their commitment to ensuring the best local healthcare now, and into the future. The Under One Roof campaign launched to raise $20 million - the largest community capital project in Brockville’s history. To kick off the fundraising, the Foundation, through the stewardship of donor dollars, was able to commit $10 million. David Beatty and Mary Jean McFall, campaign co-chairs, and the cabinet, then took a Municipality and internal approach, with the City of Brockville making the largest donation of $4.7 million. The United Counties of Leeds and Grenville were unanimous in their decision to support the local share with their donation of $2.1 million. We are forever grateful to the City of Brockville, the United Counties of Leeds Grenville, and the many corporations, organizations, businesses, foundations and individual donors, that gave to the campaign, said Joan Simon, Executive Director of the Foundation. This tremendous support ensures quality healthcare in our region, now and into the future. A $2 million gift from the Don and Shirley Green Family Charitable Foundation resulted in the naming of the tower, and will be invested in supporting and enhancing patient care. Thank you, 20 million times, to everyone in our community who made this project possible, said Cooper. The Province of Ontario invested $159 million towards the hospital expansion. On October 24, BGH welcomed patients from the Palliative Care, Complex Medical Management, Inpatient Rehabilitation and Integrated Stroke Unit, previously located at 42 Garden Street, to the 175,000 square foot tower at the Hospital’s main campus. The Inpatient Mental Health Program is anticipated to move into the new space later in November. BGH is thriving. We are growing to meet the needs of our friends and families across Leeds Grenville, now and for future generations, said Nick Vlacholias, President and CEO at BGH. This support provides our staff and physicians with the modern healthcare facilities, equipment and technology that they need to deliver the exceptional care that our patients have grown to expect. THE DON & SHIRLEY GREEN FAMILY CHARITABLE FOUNDATION DONATES $2 MILLION TO THE BROCKVILLE AND DISTRICT HOSPITAL FOUNDATION, IN SUPPORT OF BROCKVILLE GENERAL HOSPITAL On September 29, 2016, the Brockville community lost a cherished friend, Donald (Baillie) Green. Don Green’s smile was contagious and legendary, as was his generosity. His philanthropy lives on as the Don & Shirley Green Family Charitable Foundation recently announced a $2 million gift in support of the Brockvil...le General Hospital’s Phase II Redevelopment Project. Don Green, and his wife, Shirley have been longstanding supporters of Brockville General Hospital over the years. Their family foundation has supported BGH having generously donated to the Palliative Care Program, the Cardiac Rehabilitation Program, and for various medical equipment. The Don & Shirley Green Family Charitable Foundation was also one of the first donors to step-up with a donation of $1 million to the Brockville and District Hospital Foundation’s Campaign for Care that saw a $32 million expansion to Brockville General Hospital that opened in October 2003. With this donation, a new state-of-the art Intensive Care Unit was realized within the expansion. When asked why their family foundation made this recent donation Debbie O’Brien, the Green’s eldest daughter and President of their Foundation responded, This community has always been home to my Mom and Dad. To be able to make this donation is providing a legacy for our Dad that demonstrates the commitment to our community, and to the Brockville General Hospital. It is wonderful that my Mom gets to see this happen as this is a proud moment for our family as we honour our Dad in this way. The BDHF is humbled by this $2 million dollar legacy gift in support of Brockville General Hospital made by the Don & Shirley Green Family Charitable Foundation. The philanthropy and generosity shown by Don & Shirley Green and their foundation, is well-known and has touched the lives of many, both locally and globally. Joan Simon, Executive Director for the Brockville and District Hospital Foundation also noted, Don Green’s generosity, and ongoing support will be acknowledged by naming the tower the Donald B. Green Tower and it will be fitting recognition for he and his family. A private dedication ceremony will be taking place on Tues., September 29th.

JUST BECAUSE CERB IS ENDING, DOESN’T MEAN SUPPORT IS. Leeds and Grenville-The United Counties of Leeds and Grenville created the SSRF (Covid Relief Fund) to support residents of Leeds and Grenville who have been financially impacted by the pandemic. It helped me in a time when I wasn’t able to get any jobs due to the pandemic, so the money I received helped me to pay some bills. I am very grateful I made the decision to call the employment office (EEC) and got them to help... me with getting some support from the relief fund.- SSRF (Covid Relief Fund) recipient. Distributed through the Employment and Education Centre, the Covid Relief Fund is designed to help individuals and families cover the costs of everything from rent, food, school supplies, personal protective equipment, cleaning supplies, and more. Another SSRF (Covid Relief Fund) recipient said, I was able to buy groceries, cleaning supplies and get caught up on my hydro bill. It pretty much helped keep us above water. The Employment + Education Centre offers multiple financial services along with the SSRF (Covid Relief Fund), covering everything from budgeting basics and financial literacy, to money management and cash flow analysis. We are encouraging people to think outside of the box. If you need support for something that might not be covered by the Covid Relief Fund directly, why not save money in one area, to cover the cost in another? It doesn’t hurt to reach out and talk about your options. said Martin Carette, Financial Coach. Not sure if something is covered by the SSRF? Just give the Employment and Education Centre a call and their financial coach will work with you to figure it out. You can contact the Employment and Education Centre’s Financial Coach, Martin at 613-498-2111 ext. 234 or [email protected].

United Way Leeds & Grenville announces its 2020 Campaign goal! Brockville, ON. - United Way Leeds & Grenville announced today that their annual campaign goal for 2020 will be $738,000. The 2020 goal reflects the growing need in the community. It is also an ambitious goal, as United Way has limited opportunity to raise funds through community events this year. Funds from workplace campaigns, where a lot of their target is raised, may also be limited. Many businesses and wor...kplaces have been affected by the ongoing pandemic and will modify their campaigns. United Way is however, excited to announce the Leadership Challenge Grant. Thanks to a generous donation from an anonymous donor, new Leadership donors can increase the impact of their gift. Donors who increase their donations to $1,200 will see their donation matched and donors who are already Leaders of the Way (donations of $1,200 or more), and add at least 10% to their gift will also see their increase matched. This is one way to help fill the gap. I am willing to step up and do extra because I believe in the United Way and our Community said Campaign Chair Terry O’Reilly. The needs are even greater due to the pandemic. Please step up with me, try to reach a little deeper and give from your heart to help the United Way meet those extra needs. Trish Buote, Executive Director United Way Leeds & Grenville echoed Terry’s comments. The needs are great in 2020 as our agencies work hard to meet the complex issues faced by their clients. In times of crisis, we need to come together and work to make sure immediate needs are met and the most vulnerable members of our community are taken care of. We are asking people to continue to show their local love, continue investing in our community if they can and, if possible, to consider increasing their gift. Our community needs your support to recover and to thrive. About United Way Leeds & Grenville United Way Leeds & Grenville is a non-profit agency that supports over 20 local partner agencies in the community. Its mission is to improve lives and build community by engaging individuals and mobilizing collective action. UWLG is dedicated to bringing people together to build vibrant and caring communities. For more information, please visit www.uwlg.org.
