BALANCING WILDLIFE PHOTOGRAPHY AND RESPECT Recently we have been contacted by a number of individuals showing great concern for the health and welfare of the wildlife that call Durham Region home. This time of year, many species of mammals and birds become more visible to us, creating great photo opportunities. ... While we recognize the excitement of seeing your first Barred Owl resting in the tree tops, or a silly raccoon playing with an icicle we must first STOP and RESPECT their presence before jumping to capturing it on film. We must STOP and consider the type of impact our presence will have to the wildlife. Unnecessary gatherings of people, not only are in violation of social distancing rules, but are extremely stressful for any wildlife. While we want you to be able to capture these great memories please consider their wellbeing first and fore most. Did you know the majority of birds that die in the wildlife center is due to the stress of transportation and being around large numbers of people while being caught? Something to think about. Stress in birds is manifested internally, expressing to you the photographer no signs of their distress. While you and the 100 other people are excited to get the perfect photo, the animal’s body could begin to shut down. If you are a wildlife photographer looking to snap some shots or even a family out for a hike, I would highly recommend taking a look at this helpful link on the importance of respecting wildlife while filming. The Audubon is a great resource to make sure you get the best photograph while ensuring the wild animals are safe and stress free. https://www.audubon.org//audubons-guide-ethical-bird-photo Please take the time to share this post with your friends and family.

BOTTLE DRIVE FOR WILDLIFE You can help by simply donating your empties (cans and bottles) Many of you have heard about the wolves looking to make Soper Creek Wildlife Rescue their forever home after years living in someone's home..... Funds raised through this bottle drive will be going directly to help build their enclosure. To make our volunteers life a little easier we ask that you: Count the number of cans you have. Place them in a garbage bag. Label the bag with the total number of cans. Bottles - place them back into the box they came in. This will save our team a tremendous amount of time and is greatly appreciated during a time when extra precautions need to be made. Not able to drop off at the wildlife center? Not to worry we have a number of drop offs around Durham Region just send us a message and we will provide you with the location address. Don't have empties to donate and still want to help? Consider making a donation on our Go Fund Me Page gf.me/u/y35f78 Thank you for helping us to save WILD lives

Soper Creek Wildlife Rescue 02.09.2020

SEARCHING FOR THEIR FOREVER HOME.... Last week, Soper Creek Wildlife Rescue was contacted by an animal shelter who had come into possession of a large number of wolves. Some were 100% wolves, mixed percentages and others more dog than not. These magnificent creatures were being kept in a residential home, for the purpose of breeding. Their puppies would be sold into the pet trade.... Yes, you read that right. The pet trade. You all know that a residential home is no place for a wolf. It simply is not safe. After being able to place a number of them, 2 were left without a home. Soper Creek Wildlife Rescue can offer the perfect forever home. We sit on 15 acres of forest. Their home would be built in a natural setting allowing them to run, play, dig and get dirty. But most importantly, it would be safe. This is an expense that we obviously did not budget for. Especially during a pandemic. But we realize that there may be no other alternative for them. They deserve a second chance at life. Their lives matter to us. The cost of building such an enclosure is going to cost of upwards of $20,000. I know it seems like a huge amount of money BUT when a roll of welded wire mesh cost $500 for 100ft - it adds up quickly. The cost of lumber has sky rocketed in the last few months due to the pandemic. A number of organizations have been generous, donating to construction of their forever home. We are HALF WAY there. Today we are reaching out to you, to help these souls find a forever home at Soper Creek Wildlife Rescue. There are many ways to help. 1. Through this Go Fund Me Page 2. Through our website 3. Purchasing the supplies directly (please email us at [email protected] to get the information) 4. E-transfer to [email protected] Thank you for realizing that these guys are worthy of a safe forever home. https://www.gofundme.com/f/seized-wolves-in-need-of-permane

BOTTLE DRIVE TO SAVE A WILD LIFE!!! You can help by simply donating your empties. Many people don't realize:... The average baby squirrel stays in care for 3 months. Injured wildlife require xrays, medication and many months of rehabilitation Baby birds eat 14 hours a day, every 20 minutes. Wildlife Rehabilitation is extremely expensive and we are not government funded at all! By donating your empties you are helping with the many costs associated with these work we do. Can you help pick up? Can you be a drop off point? Please send us a message at [email protected]
