The restrictions & changes this holiday season are disappointing to many. We get it, we have families & traditions too. Like you, our staff want to do their par...t to #StopTheSpread of #COVID19. Virtual gatherings or events are the safest way to celebrate the holiday this year, and to allow close contact only with people living in your own household. People who live alone may consider exclusive close contact with one additional household. For tips & ideas visit: www.hpph.ca/holidays See more

ON-STREET PARKING Residents are reminded that on-street parking during a snow event is not permitted at any time of the day or night. If you park on the street during a snow event, your vehicle will be ticketed and may be towed. On-street parking during a snow event severely slows down route clearing, and in some cases, prohibits the operator from clearing snow all together. Overnight parking on municipal streets and in municipal parking lots is not permitted as per the Municipality’s Parking By-Law between the hours of 2:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. to allow for snow removal to occur. For more information, please visit our Winter Maintenance page: https://www.southhuron.ca//services/winter-maintenance.aspx

Hello Everyone Today we pause to reflect on the sacrifices made in defense of Canadian values and the freedoms afforded to us by the bravery of those who served, and those who continue to serve, our great nation. This year’s Remembrance Day commemoration will feel a little different as we face a different fight to keep each other safe from the spread of COVID-19.... Although we cannot be together, we are still united in our cause. We will continue to safeguard our most vulnerable by following the guidance of our healthcare professionals. United, we will continue to build up our community through acts of respect, compassion and kindness. All municipal flags are flying at half-staff today in an act of solemn remembrance that our freedoms are a gift but also an enduring responsibility that requires our attention. Lest we forget. Exeter Main Street sign blades updated to reflect towns heritage districts The Municipality has nearly completed replacing all street signs along Main Street in Exeter with new sign blades. Guided by Exeters Community Improvement & Streetscape Design Plan, the purpose of this project is to raise awareness and appreciation of Exeters streetscape districts defined by land-use, landscape character and community heritage. Decorative blades have been installed to match the br...anded colours selected by the BIA for each of Exeters districts: The London Road district is the southern boundary of Exeter to Waterloo St. It is an area defined largely by land use rather than street pattern. Visually, this district is defined by highway commercial uses. The area presents a transition landscape, from rural to more urban. Its component sites are diverse in age, architecture, scale, and site plan orientation. The Historic Core district represents the original core of Exeter, with some of the towns oldest buildings dating back to 1855. This district is bound by Waterloo Street to the south, Victoria Street to the north and all properties that front on to the east side of William Street and the west side of Andrew Street. South Bank is bound by Victoria Street to the south and Church Street to the north and encompasses all properties situated on the east side of William Street and west side of Andrew Street. This district represents a transition area from Main Street centre because of its diversity of residential and commercial architecture and land use residential dwellings. Francistown - Exeters most northerly district - acknowledges the communitys history. This district is bound by the towns northern boundary, the northern edge of McNaughton Park, the eastern and western entrances to Exeter on Thames Road at Rosemont Avenue and approximately 150 metres west of Francis Street respectively. This project was funded by a grant received from the Main Street Revitalization Initiative administered by the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO). https://www.southhuron.ca/Modules/News/index.aspx Experience Exeter

Happy E-Waste Wednesday - one of the theme days for #WasteReductionWeek! Garbage collection bins and landfill sites are no place for electronic waste (e-waste). E-waste contains materials that are hazardous to both human health and the environment - which is why they require a specialized facility to safely recycle and dispose their contents. ... The South Huron Landfill (71230 Ausable Line) has a dedicated collection spot for unwanted e-waste. Look for the Bluewater Recycling Association blue shipping container the next time you visit the landfill! Sherwood Crescent is finally looking like a road again after the first layer of asphalt was laid this week by the contractor. After nearly four months of construction, the Sherwood Crescent road reconstruction project is on schedule, under budget and nearing completion. The road reconstruction began at the end of May to replace aging sanitary sewers, watermains, storm sewers and the road surface with new and improved materials. Once the final layer of asphalt is laid in 2021, the road reconstruction will be complete. There is always some level of disruption to the community with any construction project. We would like to thank the residents for their patience and understanding during the road reconstruction.

#OnThisDay - September 1, 1980 - near Thunder Bay, ON As he neared the 18 mile mark, Terry could see miles of supporters along the highway, cheering him on, say...ing, Keep going, you can do it, were all behind you. Terry felt like he was having a heart attack, the pain was so intense. He took a break and crawled into his sleeping bag, hoping the pain might subside. It didnt. Terry got back up, ran another mile until he could see no more people along the road. It was then he said to himself, This may be my last mile. He got in the van and asked his best friend Doug to take him to a hospital. Later that day, Terry called his parents in Port Coquitlam and told them the cancer had returned. He had run his last mile of the Marathon of Hope. In his last journal entry, all Terry wrote was: "21 miles. 3,339 miles total." Honour Terry's Try. Donate today. https://bit.ly/3lHgE6v

The Municipality of South Huron has partnered with @ExperienceExeter and @StopGapFoundation to improve the accessibility of storefronts in our community. South Huron received a grant from the Main Street Revitalization Initiative administered by the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) to produce temporary accessibility ramps suitable for overcoming a single step not higher than 9 inches. After a delay due to COVID-19, the Municipality delivered the first batch of t...emporary storefront accessibility ramps to participating businesses today! Parents pushing strollers, couriers using carts, and people using mobility aides all benefit from a barrier-free storefront. Participation is FREE and businesses that sign up receive a colourful access ramp for their single-step entryway! Supplies are limited and customized ramps are available on a first come, first serve basis. Interested businesses can request a ramp by contacting the Municipality of South Huron at [email protected] Pictured here, Mayor Finch and Exeter BIA Chair Tira Wootton deliver the first ramp to Amy Wilhelm and Laura Hull at The Little Shop in Exeter.

South Huron Vitality Fund makes first donations to local charities In July, the South Huron Vitality Fund made its first grants to three local organizations: t...he Huron Waves Music Festival, Big Brothers Big Sisters South Huron, and South Huron Winterfest. It was exciting to be part of the process of making the first grants from the Vitality Fund, said Tom Prout, Chair of the South Huron Community Foundation. We had excellent applications, and I know the grants will make a real difference in our community. Established in 2019, the South Huron Vitality Fund is an agreement between the Municipality of South Huron and the Grand Bend Community Foundation to support charities that provide direct programs, services, or activities to enhance the quality of life for South Huron residents. This fund will continue to grow and produce an income every year for many years to come. In addition, the Municipality provided $10,000 in flow-through funding to ensure that local needs could be met this year. Municipality of South Huron Grand Bend Community Foundation
