Six more days left of the Hope Floats bottle drive directing funds to Hope Floats. In August we raised approximately $800.00 for Wellspring, so far September/October has raised $705.00 for Hope Floats. Beginning November 1st we will switch our focus to South Niagara Canoe Club as the recipient of our ongoing bottle drive fundraiser.
Look who made the paper! Amy & Walker looking good and making us proud! #southniagaracanoeclub #highperformanceathletes #sprintkayak #sprintcanoe https://www.wellandtribune.ca//photos-kayakers-and-canoeis

Today was a great day for a long paddle! SNCC organized a long distance paddle of 8 km or 18 km. Apologies to those who did 8 km as I don't have any pictures... of you ( kudos to Isaac, Colleen, Maureen, Kathleen B and Kathleen R). Here are some pics of the 18 km group. Thank you to coaches KC, Evan, and Tim! See more

Due to the COVID cancellation of local, divisional, provincial, national and international competitions this year, CKC came up with the idea of a virtual coast-to-coast regatta involving only C-1s and C-2s but including boys and girls, men and women, and various levels of abilities. I am not sure what the national figures will be, but there were over 30 paddlers on the water at the WIFC today, including about 20 paddlers from Burloak. Time trials were held at distances of 200 metres, 500 metres, 1000metres, and 2 kilometres. The paddlers took part in waves and were timed. Commemorative crests were distributed to participants and prizes consisted of orange-coloured face masks bearing the CKC logo. - Alan Wright

Sometime after October, and as soon as covid-19 is no longer a threat, Hope Floats and South Niagara Canoe Club will begin a marketing campaign to grow grow grow. From a focus on Breast Cancer Survivors and Dragon Boat, every program will benefit from the marketing. The grant mentioned in this newspaper article is over three years, the vast majority to cover a marketing strategy. It will cover marketing, a free learn to paddle program, 2 new dragon boats, 44 life jackets, 40 paddles and a dragon boat trailer. https://www.stcatharinesstandard.ca//ontario-government-an

From Canoe/Kayak Ontario today: Due to Canoe Kayak Ontario (CKO) Sprint's inability to provide a fair, open and direct competition in 2020 and our athlete's limited training opportunities, CKO Sprint's 2020-2021 Ontario Team Program (OHPSI, OAAP & Development Team) nominations will be based on our current 2019-2020 nominations. If a current 2019-2020 nominated athlete is excluded from the 2020-2021 Ontario Team Programs nominations due to a nomination to the National Team, ...retires or is unable to fulfil their Athlete Agreement, the next ranked athlete will be nominated to the 2020-2021 team based on 2019 Ontario Team selection results, using 2019-2020 Ontario Team selection criteria (OHPSI and OAAP Team only). Additional athletes will have the opportunity to be nominated to the 2020-2021 Development Team based on a performance evaluation at the 2020 Ontario Championships and/or additional performance indicators. Full details to be provided by June 22, 2020. CKO Sprint is committed to hosting the Ontario Championships on August 29-30, 2020, where we will celebrate the successes, determination and commitment of our athletes, coaches, clubs, and paddling community. However, this will not be an in-person event where all of us come together in one location. Instead, we will host the event simultaneously in multiple locations, either by Division, region or on an individual club basis with live, real-time results. How the event will be hosted will be based on Public Health recommendations and ensuring the health and safety of our paddling community. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me. Ryan Blair, ChPC Technical Director, Canoe Kayak Ontario (CKO) Sprint
Dragon Boat Canada has issued their return to paddle guidelines. Their guidelines seem to be aligned with South Niagara Canoe clubs decision to cancel all Dragon boat for the 2020 on water season. They also are in line with my personal view that normal Dragon Boat practices will not be possible until there is a vaccine for covid-19. In order to socially distance in a dragon boat, no more than 4 paddlers can participate. That's one heavy boat!... https://files.constantcontact.com//dd94093b-6a3b-4647-8f7d https://files.constantcontact.com//dd94093b-6a3b-4647-8f7d

Welland extends closure of facilities and cancellation of events until June 30th. https://www.welland.ca//Covid-19BusinessContinuityClosureE What does this mean for South Niagara Canoe Club? We are following the advice and rules set out by medical experts. Our facilities are on the City of Welland property. At this point in time our Spring programming may not, by law take place. We hope that means some programming can begin July 1st, but it is not guaranteed. Any me...mbers that have their own equipment stored in our facilities, and need access to it, please contact SNCC. Stay safe everyone! See more
We here at the SNCC know that without our paddlers and coaches, we wouldnt be possible. Although a bit delayed, we wanted you to know what were doing to keep ourselves and the community safe. While we deeply miss practicing and seeing all of your beautiful faces around the club, we know this is in all our best interests. Below is an announcement from our Board of Directors, please feel free to message us with any questions or concerns. We wish you and your families a healthy and safe social distancing period. We cant wait to be back on the water
A wise, albeit disappointing decision. Stay safe everyone! https://www.dragonboat.sport//The-12th-IDBF-Club-Crew-Worl
